Great textbook!!!,
By
This review is from: Mechatronics (Hardcover)
- The book is one of the most advanced and comprehensive mechatronics books. It is not a tutorial book of basics. It starts with fundamental physical principals, then gives examples from real-world designs, such as the circuit examples in electrohydraulics.
- Through the book, many good design guidelines are briefly sprinkled. A young student may not completely understand these and appreciate, but experienced designers will agree and appreciate them. Many good design principles come from good experience, not necessarily from a formula. The book tries to provide those insights in computer controlled mechanical system design. - It would be good to have more examples in the book so that it can be more easily used in classroom setting. As is, it is a good reference book and a little hard to read by undergraduate students.

Good Book - Terrible Writing and Poor Attention to Detail,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mechatronics (Hardcover)
This book covers pretty much all electronic components used in industry today with many great examples and applications. This IS NOT a book for novices in the subject material. I like the information and array of topics covered in the book as a whole. However, the grammar and attention to detail are quite terrible. I find myself shaking my head every other page reading typos and mis-labeled figures. Fortunately, I have not been assigned any of the problems so I cannot attest to whether the problems refer to accurate figures, etc. as another reviewer mentioned.
Overall Opinion: Great Idea and Coverage but Terrible writing and organization

The Best Mechatronics Book,
This review is from: Mechatronics (Hardcover)
This a very good book for learning Mechatronics technology from the basics to the graduate level. It's difficult to fit in such a vast subject in one book and the author did a fine job. The book also deals with Matlab/Simulink approaches to control systems.

Lousy, error-filled book,
By
This review is from: Mechatronics (Hardcover)
I used this book during my first of two mechatronics courses. Due to the many complaints from students about the number of errors throughout the book our instructor chose a different text for the second semester. Some of the errors include: homework problems that refer to figures that are drawn incorrectly, thus making the homework problem impossible to solve; figures and pictures that are incorrectly labeled, and answers to homework problems that are incorrect.
Additionally, the text seemed to refer more to the history of a device rather than how to apply it. Many of the homework problems ask for information that is not discussed in the text, so external resources are required to answer the questions. It would have been better to simply have another primary source to begin with.

I just read through the first section of this book, and it left me with a terrible headache due to what I would deem an unacceptable amount of grammatical errors. Perhaps if the text were to be revised, this could make a decent textbook, but as is, it should not be used to teach a course.

An Excellent and Helpful Book!,

This review is from: Mechatronics (Hardcover)
This is a great book. Not only provides fundamental mechatronics knowledge which is very helpful for the beginners, but it also gives well-chosen examples for readers to fully understand the basic principles. Based on this well-organized book, students and engineers can get a clear view of how to design a real system, from control theories to the analysis of real applications, from basic components to hydraulic systems. Thanks to the author's excellent work, this book contains many real-world designs and good figures. It can be used as students' textbook as well as researchers' reference book.

Excellent book for mechatronics,

This review is from: Mechatronics (Hardcover)
This is a very well written book that deals with basics of electronics in an in-depth manner, thus, helping people like me from a non-electronics background to understand control systems easily. It covers various important topics like electro-hydraulic systems, micro-controllers, electric motors and also discusses modeling of mechatronic systems and control system design. This wide variety of subjects is dealt with in great detail.
I have used this book in my coursework and I am also using it in my research projects. It encourages students to develop their own projects and refers to real devices and components in examples and applications, hence, is also suitable for a practicing engineer.

Junior or Senior this is the book for Mechatronics,

This review is from: Mechatronics (Hardcover)
This book is a good start for someone who is new in the field of mechatronics and also it is a good reference for someone who is practicing the field. I can say that there is a lot of effort spent in this book as it covers the details of all aspects. Starting from the control theories and it is application, Passing by the analysis of motion transmission mechanisms and hydraulic systems which starts really from the basics the same as basic electronic components, electric actuators, sensors and microcontrollers which allows engineers from different disciplines to understand how does control systems work, Ending with different logic controllers. All of the above subjects are provided with a lot of illustrating examples and practice problems which is a good practice for under grade and graduate students level as well as a reference for expert engineers.
Supporting the book also there are well selected laboratory experiments which are a good way of practicing the theories and give a good experience of the art.

Great text for engineers and students,

This is a great book for everyone being active in the field of Mechatronics - engineers AND students.
In comparison to other books I used, it is far more detailed and gives deep insight and current state-of-the-art application examples for every topic covered. My backround is electrical. Therefore, when designing mechatronics systems I usually struggle with mechanical aspects. I use the book as formulary and reference book on a day-to-day basis. I think the same is true for students out of all major engineering disciplines.

Careful,

This review is from: Mechatronics (Hardcover)
Maybe it's just because this was used for an Intro to Mechatronics course in my Junior year, but I found this book totally useless. The explanations of how certain actuators/sensors work are about three sentences long, followed by 200 equations. The only reason I understood anything from this book is thanks to Wikipedia.
If you already know about all this stuff, maybe this book is a good reference, but if you are trying to learn it for the first time, good luck. Also, I just thought that I'd point out that the 4 positive reviews for this book are from Illinois -- that is coincidentally where the author is from as well. That may explain their enthusiastic reviews of this book. |
