5.0 out of 5 stars I love the smell of Particle Cannons in the Morning!
I must say, being a newbie to the battletech universe, I found the plot of this game to be easy to swallow. It is too easy to become enveloped in the conflicts between the Federated Commonwealth and Free Rasalhague Republic, etc. Keeping up with costs and managing reairs make the game all the more real, at the ned of the day, you are just a businessman, so remember...

I just got this game from one of my friends (it didn't work onhis computer) I installed it i thought it would be one of the better games i've played. It was for awhile but after i got into some of the later missions i started to figure things out like.. 1. It's a dos game! I must say, being a newbie to the battletech universe, I found the plot of this game to be easy to swallow. It is too easy to become enveloped in the conflicts between the Federated Commonwealth and Free Rasalhague Republic, etc. Keeping up with costs and managing reairs make the game all the more real, at the ned of the day, you are just a businessman, so remember that. The gameplay is truly enjoyable. Initially I had a slow computer, and played the game at low graphic detail, complete with stuttering etc. Once I upgraded, I was so impressed with the graphics at full bore, that I played the game through twice again. The mechs are relatively easy to control and reaslistic, by that I mean that the larger mechs such as the atlas are slow and cumbersome, while mechs like the Timber wolf are fast agile and deadly. Gameplay is literally a blast, nowhere in any other ground combat sim can you achieve the satisfaction of alpha striking your enemy and watch them blow to pieces in front of you! The AI level is also impressive, with your enemies not that easy to kill. Overall, even though it is now superceded by Mech3,an excellent combat sim, which will keep you at it continuously. This has a place on the shelf of all dedicated combat sim gamers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Mechwarrior since the begining, February 6, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries 3-D FX Edition (CD-ROM)
i've play'd every mechwarrior games they've made, and i have to say that this was by far one of the best. you can pick your own missions, buy the mechs you want, hire the lance mates u want, spend your cash how u want, and so on. some people complained that it didn't give you everything you needed at the begining, (like all the mechs and all the guns) thats cause you are one lone mechwarrior you wouldn't realy own all the guns and all the mechs, you are starting at the bottom, and in the end of the game you rise to the top. its just as much work on the battle feild as in the mech bay. the graphics aren't the most spectacular out there, but the game play is awsome. next to mechwarrior 4 i have to say this is one of the best Mech games out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of War., September 20, 2001

This review is from: Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries 3-D FX Edition (CD-ROM)
This is the best game i have ever played:not only, because
it's a simulation, but also be,cause the robots in this game have so much weapons to use and so much power.
And i also like the environment in which the battle is performed.
My favorite robot is Orion, because of his power and his devastating weapons. There are couple of hints that i think might be useful. When chasing another robot make sure to use long range missles, because when they hit from long distance they do maximum damage. Also when your robot is running you better watch that heat indicator, becasue when that robot will overheat you risk a fatal ammo explosion.Try to avoid aerial battles:They are very hard to win.Have fun!
The legend will never die! 14:15of military time. Orion

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my top best Mechwarrior 2 games, July 7, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries 3-D FX Edition (CD-ROM)
My top favorite Mechwarrior 2 game are?

1.Mechwarrior 2 31st century 3dfx Voodoo

2.Mechwarrior 2 Ghost Bear Legacy

3.Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries 3dfx

The only reason why I put this as number 3 is because the other 2 games can use more clan mechs plus my favorite mech is only in 31st century and ghost bear it's called Marauder IIC. But overall this a fun great game however this game is only version 1.0 but you can patch to 1.1 by using the same patch you would do in 95 version of mercenaries and it will give you the same benefit just like titanium but unlike the titanium here are the advantage that make 3dfx better then titanium

Pros:
Errors- In Titanium no matter where you would go you get a error popup that would kick you out of the game and made you undo some stuff that you just did if you didn't save of course.

Graphic- Now with graphic they may look the same but however both of them use different direct x version titanium use 5 while 3dfx use 3 but 3dfx looks better because it doesn't look as bluer.

The cons are just the game will have some mild errors but that could be only because I using a XP Patch to play game under Windows XP. but Included the version of mercenaries 3dfx 1.1 is better then doing 95 1.1 and titanium 1.1 put together.

Thank you for reading and hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars by FAR the best Mechwarrior game, July 13, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries 3-D FX Edition (CD-ROM)
This game is by far the best mechwarrior game in the industry. It was done by Activision and FASA instead of Microsoft and FASA. What is absolutly great about this game is the online feature known as MercNet. Anyone else who dissed this game is way out of their league because they have no idea what they are talking about. Take the person who said that MercNet was no good and that it was a dos game. There are so many patches for the game which fix it and if you get the good patch it will completly carry the game over to your windows system. Also what is so great about MercNet is that you actually get to know people. On the Zone...the multiplayer function of Mech3 and Mech4... you never get to know people. There are like a billion people on the server at the same time so you can't even keep up a conversation due to everyone else talking. On MercNet the limits to each of the rooms are 30 people max and they still don't fill up. So bottom line is that cut all the technology, the dazzling graphics of Mech3 and Mech4 you get a lame game. If you want the most of a Mechwarrior game then you have to get this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mech Mania, May 19, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries 3-D FX Edition (CD-ROM)
When you play this game under mercenary commander, the only 'Mech you can use is Commando, at the start, and if you sell him, you lose because you can't buy even the cheapest 'Mech. When you finally get into the action at first, it's hard to play, but once you figure it out, it's great. In Mercenary mode, you can choose from Commando, Jenner, or Panther. In Instant Action, you can choose between several 'Mechs and can choose up to 3 and what your enemies are going to be. The gameplay is great. When I rated it, it was more like 4.96 stars. I suggest buying this game.

This is one of the best mechwarrior games if not the best. It lets you start your own merc band or join one if your a newbie. Full of intense gameplay and beautiful graphics. All things considered this game is one step ahead of the compitition.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries 3-D FX Edition (CD-ROM)
This game is really cool. I especially enjoyed how you had to buy your mechs. You could also hire people to help you win the missions. But once you win the game you never want to play it again. its boring.
