Amazon.com Review

Ask any number of gaming experts and they'll likely confirm that Activision's 1995 giant-robot action title MechWarrior 2, despite its numerous overhauls and long-delays, remains one of the most groundbreaking and exciting games of all time. Now Activision revitalizes the classic with MechWarrior 2: Titanium Edition.

The new edition boasts new 3-D graphics, supporting both 3Dfx and Rendition hardware, and provides a slightly updated look without compromising the classic's proven, action-packed gameplay. Even though MechWarrior 2: Titanium Edition's improved 3-D visuals and sound effects don't stack up favorably against modern games, if you never experienced MechWarrior 2, here's your chance to relive one of the most complete action titles ever conceived.

The player assumes command of gigantic, lumbering BattleMechs and, in many missions, oversees a squad of friendly team members controlling their own huge metallic juggernauts. Before each mission (MechWarrior 2: Titanium Edition includes over 30 missions), players select from 15 different BattleMechs, varying in size, speed, and durability, and customize them with over 20 different weapons, such as missiles, lasers, and equipment like coolant devices and jump jets. MechWarrior 2: Titanium Edition's diverse mission objectives, instant action missions, customizable BattleMechs, and NetMech multiplayer capability provide a nearly infinite amount of replaying. --Doug Radcliffe

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great game !, January 15, 2002

This review is from: Mechwarrior 2: Titanium Stand Alone (CD-ROM)
Mech2's expansion is a great game.

I have never seen so many mechs in one game of all the mech games I have played this is the only one with a large ammount of mechs includeing the common mechs now Timber Wolf, Dire Wolf, Atlas, and my personal favorite mech the Elemental not a mech but a body armor hehe 1 star of those vs a Dire Wolf is a great fight :)

The Single Player missions are pretty good they take a while to beat as you are a Mercenary you can higher lance mates and you have contracts for decideing where you fight. The ability to choose where you fight is very nice considering some of the battles are right out of battletech history :) so you can play out history instead of just reading it.

The online gameplay is good they have improved alot over mechwarrior2's online gameplay which had the DFA bug and several other small bugs to my knowledge there is not as many bugs in this game.

Another thing that is very nice is that they upgraded the graphics in this version and the 3dfx version. The previous version did not have that good of graphics.

Good things:

Lots of Mechs
You choose where you fight in single player
very few bugs
Updated Graphics

Bad Things:
Well far as I can see there are none besides the fact that your a Mercenary and personnaly I perfered the Clan Story line over the Merc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Crap! This Game ROCKS!, March 2, 2000
This review is from: Mechwarrior 2: Titanium Stand Alone (CD-ROM)
If your like me and like battletech things, this is it. It's pretty cheap to buy but is really good and has some really good missions. And it's almost exactly like the battletech board game. It has all of the rules. And the cool option is that you can override the shutdown. This game rocks!

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic, March 23, 2005

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mechwarrior 2: Titanium Stand Alone (CD-ROM)
Mechwarrior 2 remains one of my fondest gaming memories. This is the game that made giant robot fighting fun and exciting. In it's time it was the pinnacle of gaming technology, using advanced 3D graphics and real time lighting. The gameplay was also excellent, combining an epic story, detailing one mercenary groups exploits before and during the clan invasion. While you where free to pick and choose jobs that suited you, certain jobs had to be taken eventually to advance the story. Over the course of the game, you will find yourself waging war in the various border skirmishes between the great houses, fighting for fame and fotune in the Solaris VII arenas, and doing your part in stopping the clan juggernaught. The fact that the game gave you choices is what makes this game stand out. No longer where you forced to do the right thing. At times people who you where fighting against would offer you more money if you fight on their side, and the choice to do so is yours.

I would recomend this game to anyone who has ever loved playing the mechwarrior series of games, or anyone who simply enjoys the idea of giant robots fighting other giant robots. You can see how the genre was really created, and play the game where you could customize your mechs based upon the Battletech rules of war.
