5.0 out of 5 stars Great Grill!
This is a wonderful charcoal grill with an adjustable grill surface which was the main feature we were interested in-- this feature is apparently hard to find-- my husband's family has used this grill for years, and we are happy to have one of our own now!

3.0 out of 5 stars Declining product quality
I have purchased MECO grills over the years [since the early-'80s] and have been a satisfied customer. 3.0 out of 5 stars Declining product quality, July 25, 2010

I have purchased MECO grills over the years [since the early-'80s] and have been a satisfied customer. I like the features of the grill, and have accepted the reality that the product is not as robust as Weber, but the value has always offset the relative cost issue. I just purchased a new 4106 in late June and was quite disappointed. No longer is the hood pre-assembled to the bowl with rivets, requiring no assemby by the owner, but [as noted in by another commenter] the proper locknuts required to assemble the entire grill were missing; in there place square non-locking nuts, which if utilized as direct substitute would have left a shaky grill forever. I contacted MECO and a very pleasant lady told me that was how the company was was shipping the units now, and she did not know why. But, she did happily ship the locknuts necessary, and a week later, I was able to finally assemble the grill in its entirety. Had I needed the grill immediately, I could have purchased the locknuts for 'chump-change' at my local mega-hardware store, but I did not. My final observation regarding my new grill, in addition to the above, as I compare its 'heft' to my old grill which I have not trashed as yet, it appears the gauge of the metal in both the hood & bowl is less. I suspect the robustness of this grill will not meet that of old one. Note: the only reason I'm replacing the old grill is that for the first time ever with any MECO grill I've owned, the bottom of the bowl has corroded so badly that I'm afraid it might collapse through while grilling. I prefer not to test my theory any longer.
Having said all that: as stated earlier, I do enjoy using my MECO grill as the features are to my liking. I wish the quality was the same. This will be my last MECO.....hope it lasts.....Meco Series 4100 Model 4106 Square Utility Charcoal Grill, Red

This is the fourth Meco 4100 Grille I have owned. They have never let me down when it comes to regulating my cooking and my time! They are easy and time-saving to cook with. I have owned bigger, "easier" propane gas grilles but for the comvenience, nothing comes close to this little whopper! I will never own anything else again.

My second grill of the same model. The first one eventually rusted out after 10+ years. I bought another, this time in red. But I would recommend black because the red wears out prematurely.

This grill was a great buy. Inexpensive, fairly easly to assemble, and with the proper amount of coal, is a great little workhorse. I would highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars a great grill, but . . ., June 7, 2011

This is my second Meco grill of this style, and I'm sure I'll replace it with another of the same kind when it wears out, but . . .

--It was tedious and time consuming to assemble.

--The grate that the coals go on is a problem. It's mesh embedded over a molded solid bottom, and I'm convinced that it doesn't allow enough air flow from under the coals to keep them as hot as I want them during the cooking. I'm going to either drill holes in the bottom or replace it with a simple wire grate of the kind I used on my previous Meco.

--After a couple of uses, the paint on the basin is already peeling from the heat. Surely they could find a better heat-resistant paint.

All that said, though, for a small, relatively simple grill, I get great results. The real key is the ability to raise and lower the cooking grid to three different positions. The two side tables are very handy, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what we were looking for!, July 3, 2007
This review is from: Meco Series 4100 Model 4106 Square Utility Charcoal Grill, Red (Lawn & Patio)
We were trying to replicate a charcoal grill that lasted over 20 years. Imagine our surprise to find this model made by the same company. We love the adjustable grate feature, most grills have a cheasy system that doesn't work. This grill is great and worth every penny. Highly recommended

I like this grill. It has an adjustable grate and a removable ash pan. The down side is that the manufacturer decided that it would only furnish stove bolts and nuts for assembly. The hinges and "air-sliders" require acorn, or locking, nuts. I called the customer service number in the manual and was told that theydecided to eliminate the locking-style nuts, but assured me that they would send me the 13 nuts that I needed. That never happened, so I had to buy my own and ended up double-nutting the bolts that require movement. I'd have given 5 stars, because it is a real nice, value-priced grill, but the customer service/engineering fell short.

2.0 out of 5 stars missing parts, June 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Meco Series 4100 Model 4106 Square Utility Charcoal Grill, Red (Lawn & Patio)
I don't want to mail back the entire item, but there seems to be no other way to correct missing assembly pieces. There are no acorn locknuts -- listed as included parts and needed for assembling the grill. We're going to buy the 13 needed locknuts instead of mailing back the whole thing, waiting for a new one, and probably ending up with the same diminished set of parts. So far we're really disappointed because instead of being able to build and use it when it arrived, it's sitting in pieces on the floor waiting for us to go out to a hardware store.

The best feature on this grill is that you can adust the level of the coals. Like the other reviewers said it does take a while to put together and I consider myself pretty handy with tools. My two criticisms would be that there was some nuts missing and I had to head to Lowes for some lock nuts plus it seems a little flimsy. I had to brace the legs to make it more sturdy. Other than that it is a nice grill.
