HealthPAL is designed to connect to approved off the shelf medical devices, such as glucose meters, scale, blood pressure monitors and more, transmitting the data seamlessly from HealthPAL to an individuals Personal Health Record (PHR), such as Microsoft HealthVault, so that the data can be store, tracked and trended, and provided to caregivers and healthcare providers.
Individuals are currently using the HealthPAL in a variety of ways: Used to help monitor elderly parents at their home in order to determine if they are taking their readings, children attending school and individuals needing to write down their readings and bring them back to their doctor at the next visit.
HealthPAL currently supports LifeScan Glucometer (One Touch Ultra and Ultra 2), A&D Bluetooth Scale (UC-321PBT), A&D Bluetooth Blood Pressure Monitor (UA-767PBT) and Nonin Pulse Oximeter (9560).
Added features include: The HealthPAL talks to you, stating your readings (in English), has a built-in 2 hours timer, ability to auto pair with Bluetooth devices and update its own firmware to stay current.
HealthPAL will soon have a companion docking station that can be added to is (estimated delivery date is August 2009), which allows for charging the HealthPAL, and to connect to inexpensive off-the-shelf USB devices that would normally connect to a PC. This will be a great feature additional to the HealthPAL enabling an individual to walk into a retail drug store and purchase key less expensive off the shelf devices (glucometers, scales, blood pressure, etc.) and have the capability of plugging in and uploaded data right away to an individuals Personal Health Record (PHR).
