MedReady 1600 Basic Medication Dispenser

We purchased the MedReady for my 81 year old Mom who lives alone and wants to stay independently living for as long as possible. She had begun having days when she was confused and not sure if she had taken her pills or not. We first tried the plastic pill containers with Sunday through Saturday on them, but she became confused then over what day it was and which 'S' was for which day and which 'T' was for which day as well. Then she began needing pills morning and evening. The MedReady dispenser has been a life saver. It is set now so that she gets her morning, afternoon and evening pills without me having to drive 20 miles round trip to make sure Mom is taking the right pills or calling her to remind her that it's time to take some more medications.

The only challenges we had with it at first was making sure that Mom pushed the 'door' open far enough to reset the spring mechanism that turns off the alarm and sets it for the next turn of the pill tray. It's not difficult to push the door open and takes no strength to do so, you just have to push it up far enough. Once Mom got that down though, she loved it and even told us that she is very happy with her 'pill thingy' :) It's not so loud that the neighbors hear it, but it is loud enough to get her attention no matter where she is in the house. If you or your parents are forgetting when to take their meds, this will certainly aid in that!!

This product has made a huge difference in keeping our mother safe from overdosing on her medications. She now takes her meds as scheduled and does not have to worry whether she missed some or not. The instruction sheets were writtten in clear and simple language. Regrettably for Canadian residents they cannot buy this product nor can they buy any other brand. Drug stores and health care outlets don't carry it and most concerning - they don't know such a device exists.

MAJOR SETBACK: PRODUCT COST. $150- $200 IS WAY TOO STEEP FOR MANY SENIORS ON A BUDGET.

My father mentioned he forgets when he's taken his medication. Later, I learned he over-dosed, causing internal bleeding. I realized over or under-dosing was a life or death situation for my father, who is on several medications. I purchased this automatic pill dispensing system, and he loves it! It is also easier for my Mom to not have to worry about reminding him to take his medications. It was well worth the cost to ensure his safety and avoiding a potentially fatal mistake.

My mother in law has Alzheimer's disease. After the sudden death of my father in law, we were having a very difficult time with helping her take her medicines on a set schedule. She is still able to be at home, but we knew she wouldn't be much longer unless we could find a way to solve this problem. This product is an absolute lifesaver for us all. My mother in law was reluctant to try it at first, but after a few days of using it she now raves to everyone about how great it is. We have seen a huge improvement in her quality of life and stability with this product. I highly recommend it to anyone having a difficult time with a medicine regime. We also bought the extra tray so that it can be loaded offsite, keeping all of her medications out of the house. We now enjoy the frequent visits to see her instead of the constant problems when she was not on schedule. Five stars and a big thank you from me!

My mother has Alzheimers and since my father died she has been unable to take her own medications on time. She lives in an Assisted Living Residence and we debated on whether to employ a health aid to dispense her medications. This service costs over $300.00 a month. We discovered this product on the internet and for 1/2 the cost of one month's aid service, we now have a product that enables her to have some independence and for us to have complete confidence that she is going to take her medications on time without fearing that she might overdose. We purchased a second tray so that we only have to load the machine once two weeks. We can also keep all of her medications at our home away from her. I would definitely recommend this to others in simular circumstances.

We'd tried everything for my 75-yr-old mother-in-law, who has no short-term memory. Prior to her severe memory loss, she was addicted to pain killers, with overdoses sending her to the hospital. She was either skipping most of her medications or overdosing on them!

The MedReady Basic Pill Dispenser with Alarm P1600 seemed to be just what we were looking for. We set it up next to her chair. We had to tape instructions on it for her, so she could read them when the alarm goes off. We still occasionally call her and have her check to see if any pills are in the slot. If it's empty, I know she's taken her meds.

That's the biggest thing with this dispenser...if you're getting it for someone with little or no memory, they may not remember what to do when the alarm goes off... or if they took their pills when it went off. She still occasionally misses a dose but nowhere near as many as she did with other forms of dispensing. Now my only recommendation would be for them to create an alarm that they can carry on their person, so if they aren't near the dispenser, they will still hear the alarm and know they have to go get their medication. Or how about one we can set a recording to give them instructions? Obviously, it still needs to be refilled by someone else. Overall, we love it. It has helped them to continue living on their own.

Very useful Product. Bought one for my dad which made life easier for him. The brittle plastic gear in the machine didn't last long but the manufacture did take the initiative to improve it with a sturdier nylon replacement which I had to pay for. But the service very good.

The locked pill dispenser works well. It is a good idea for elderly people who need assistance remembering when to take their medication because it has a timer on it. It is also very helpful for people who are taking pain medicine and need assistance with taking proper dosages at the right time. I personally felt this product was very expensive for what it does but it is the most reseasonably priced product on the market if you need a timer and a locked dispenser both. The product does work and I am hoping it will make things less confusing for my Dad. Purchasing it through Amazon was easy and it arrived on time.

With my dads memory sliding, my siblings and I were getting concerned that he may double dose and suffer undesirable effects. So we researched pill dispensers and leaned toward the automatic ones that prevented double dosing and the MedReady 1600 is the one we chose. It is a solid, reliable product that helps assure the medication is only available at the prescribed times. It is easy to set up (although, under the circumstances, we do it for him) and he likes using it. We're all feeling a lot better now.
