The pill dispenser alarms set easily, just like an alarm clock. The only way to turn the alarm off is to open the door to the medication compartment. The standard alarm rings continuously until the door is opened, but this alarm can be limited to 30, 45, 60 or 250 minutes.
- This version of the MedReady comes with a lower frequency alarm. That means that the alarm sound has a lower pitch which is easier to hear for someone who has trouble hearing higher pitched sounds, like children's voices. In this situation, although the tone is not louder, the lower frequency is almost like turning up the volume.
- MedReady is tamper-resistant. Instead of employing a latch, the system utilizes a real lock and key, and the edges are secure. This deters "fiddling" with the medications by people with Alzheimer's or other memory issues. (Please Note: The MedReady is not the answer for restriction of addictive drugs. If an addicted person wants access to the drugs, they may be able to break into the MedReady.)

The MedReady Automatic Medication Dispenser works well for my 89 year old Mother. It takes a couple of times to realize that the medicine that will be dispensed has to be set to the right of the opening where the meds appear when the alarm goes off. For three times a day dispensing it lasts for 9 days. Works well for her. She has visual problems and the flashing light is helpful.

Works well for my 84 year old dad who has mild dementia and can't manage his pills. He would wake me up every morning to ask what day of the week it was to ensure he took the correct pills from his day of the week plastic pill box. I was constantly checking to make sure he took them correctly.This unit ensures he takes his meds on time and prevents double doses. It took him 2 days learn how to use the unit and now after 2 weeks I'm totaly out of the loop with giving him his pills. I only load the pills every 14 days (AM and PM) and check it perdiodically to make sure everything is working properly and he doesn't skip a dose. Loading the pills is a little more complicated, so I have to pay closer attention to what I'm doing since you load every other slot. And they don't give you a template for just twice daily doses. Unit was very easy to program. Far easier than I would have thought. Battery backup feature retains memory in case of power outage and will still dispense pils. Already had to test that feature when our power went out last week. I am considering a second unit so I can do 28 days straight in case I'm out of town. One for AM pills and one for PM pills.
