The first two editions of this book sold more than 300,000 copies. The third edition, published in October 2011, is creatively restructured. It also includes vignettes on two living recipients who have recently earned the Medal of Honor in the war against terrorism. This book makes a great present for a family member, a veteran, someone on active duty or any young person who may be seeking a role model. The 90 minute DVD is included in a sleeve on the inside cover of the book. Narrated by Brian Williams, NBC TV anchor and member of the board of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, this DVD provides powerful and uplifting video highlights of the lives of eleven recipients. Highly recommended. If I could give it six stars I would.

I just received this today and gave it to my husband as an anniversary gift. He loves history, the military channel, and all that stuff. The book is absolutely gorgeous, and the bonus DVD was a surprise. The first reviewer pretty much summed it up very well, and I have nothing to add. This book is a must-have, and would make a wonderful holiday gift for anyone in your life. Get it.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has or knows someone who serves or has served this great country of ours. The follow-up interviews with these Veterans gives you a great background to their story which goes past the "hero media-hype" often associated with these fine soldiers. You will well-up with pride and honor as you read their stories of valor and victory against all odds. It is a far more enlightening read than it is just a heavy-weighted coffee-table book.

All I can say is this was worth every penny. All of the men portrayed had the most amazing stories to tell, which would be unbelieveable if seen in a movie-the fact that they did these things, under pressure, while trying to survive and fight is awe inspiring. They deserve our respect and thanks, and I think teachers should be reading stories like this in school, to teach people what honor is, rather than having a next generation of kardashian fans.

I gave this book to my husband for his birthday. He is a Vietnam veteran and loves all military literature. We both just love this book! The stories of these courageous men just take your breath away! It is beautifully illustrated and written. I think every American should know the history of this highest honor to the best of the best American soldiers. My thanks to all who have and still serve to protect our freedom.

I purchased this for my father for Christmas and I resisted the urge to open up the shrink wrap and check it out before I gifted it. Wow! The pictures and first hand accounts are tremendous. My father loves the book and I enjoyed leafing through it on the coffee table. These hero's are truly well represented within these pages.

Book was purchased for my son who seeks out good models for his life. He loves the book and so do I. The additional DVD and introductions are also good.

My brother is a Viet Nam Vet and a lifelong military man. The book was a present for him. He sat next to some of the men honored in this book at a dinner honoring the Services. He really enjoyed the book and, he felt, it gave him an even better understanding of these brave men.

This book is very nicely put together. It's huge and heavy; but, my husband has thoroughly enjoyed taking time every so often to pick it up and read a couple/two/three pages. His interests are history and military, so it's a perfect combo.
