I know a lot of gamers are getting tired of the same old and oft-repeated WW2 shooters. But the criticisms I've heard about this game hardly seem justified. The graphics are crisp with good frame rates and smooth play. The AI soldiers seem to react in a far more efficient and realistic manner. Also there are some great new wrinkles.
Two new features I love are the character and weapon development. The idea of incorporating character skill development into a WW2 shooter is fantastic, and while things like weapon upgrades aren't--of course--very realistic, they add an enjoyable new dimension to the gameplay. Also, parachuting into combat is really cool. So far, I've found the control layout to be smooth and efficient--not always a given with this series. Another plus is the far less linear nature of the missions and combat. Instead of simply moving from point A to B and so on, you're generally just given a set of mission objectives and then left to work them out on your own--with far more opportunity for using terrain and flanking options to achieve success. All in all, a very satisfying purchase and the first true next-gen WW2 shooter.

Medal of Honor: Airborne was supposed to be released over a year ago! After the unsuccessful Rising Sun and European Assult, I honestly was not expecting much from EA Games, though I purchased the game because I'm interested in the series.
From the get-go in the plane before the first mission, one notices the superior graphics and attention to historical accuracy and detail. The ability to jump out of the plane and choose where you start the battle is simply awesome. The artificial intelligence is of the highest caliber. The game advertises that you never play the same mission the same way; they're right. You may land in the same spot twice and find that your enemy has changed position and can flank you. What's nice about this is you're actually thinking rather than automatically moving through the map shooting helpless opponents. My only "problem" with this game is that later in playing, one opposes a "Nazi Storm Elite" soldier who is dressed in the black Schutzstaffel uniform, wearing body armor and is walking around with a MG-42 in his hands! While elite troops within the ranks of the S.S., called "Viper Troops", wore armor and were far superior to their Werhmacht counterparts, they become too frequent in the final mission and unfortunately resemble the "bosses" in either Wolfenstein 3D or Medal of Honor: European Assult. However, the satisfaction of overcoming them is quite enjoyable! This game is terrific! The graphics are unbelievable, music is from Michael Giaochinno from MOH: Frontline, so there is that connection between the two strongest games in the series. I can't reccomend this game high enough. It's a must have!

Medal of Honor: Airborne is the latest game in the Medal of Honor franchise and ever since it was announced, I was looking forward to it and now that it's out, was it worth the wait? It depends on weather or not your into WWII games.
There is a new twist on this as you jump out of a plane and land wherever the hell you want. Of course, this is a good and bad thing as you control where to land(always try to lend near the green smoke) though if you don't, you might be DOA because if you want to be a daredevil and land in enemy territory, the Germans will shoot as soon as you land(botched landings won't give you time to fire). As for the gameplay itself, the AI is pretty smart. They will come chasing after you even if you cower in the corner like a little girl. There is a new way of destroying tanks as well. Gammon gernades must be found and they do A LOT of damage to the tanks but also to any German who might be in your way as well as your own men. Airborne is not an easy game even with the easy difficulty. Prepare to die many times. The AI is smart as are your men(though sometimes they don't follow you). Overall, there are a total of six missions including once again Operation Market Garden and the last part of this mission is a direct rip off of Call of Duty: Roads to Victory (if you played it you know what I am talking about). All in all, Medal of Honor: Airborne is a game you should get if your a fan of the series or just plain WWII games. And though it is fairly short, it should keep you busy until Call of Duty 4 is released.

Medal of Honor Airborne for the Xbox 360 is a WWII First Person Shooter (FPS). I have been a long time fan of the Medal of Honor series ever since I played the first one on the old Playstation system. I even enjoyed the European Assualt title and thought that the fire fights were a lot more intense than the ones in Airborne. Don't get me wrong this is a next gen game, but the matter of fact is that WWII games have been done to death. With so many great titles out there within the same genre, Airborne does not push the concept far enough to win over the competition. You are still fighting on with the same assortment of weapons (pistols, submachine guns, assualt rifles, sniper, bazzooka and a few others) you are still fighting the nazi regime, you are still running through houses for close combat and fighting outdoors in the countryside for long range combat. You are still fighting inside trenches and on top of bridges.
In order to bring something new into gameplay the creators of Airborne made the game into "open world" level maps. You begin each mission with a briefing of objectives, weapons selection followed by you jumping off a plane with a parachute. And this is where the open world concept is used; you can land anywhere on the battlefield map and engage the enemy in close combat or snipe them from afar. It is not linear like most FPS that force you to go along path to advance through the level. The way to advance in Airborne is to kill enemy germans in any of the battles taking place at the same time. If you leave an area of battle and head to a different part of the map, you will encounter more enemies and alllied bots engaging in battle. Since there are mini battles taking place all over the map, this lets you devise a strategy for flanking enemy positions and sometimes even coming up behind them to gun them down. You can also land on roofs of houses and go jumping from one roof to the next while shooting down at the enemy positions on the ground levels. You can pick up ammo and switch to weapons dropped by dead enemies. Although you use the same basic WWII weapons found in most FPS, Airborn lets you upgrade your weapons the more you use it by killing enemies. You can get faster reloads, steady aim, bigger ammo clip and a few surprise attachements. I know that I will get a lot of flak for this (pun intended), but even with its open world design and upgradeable weapons, MOH Airborne, did not meet my expectations for a next gen title. There are no destructible objects, multiplayer is boring, and the missions do not get my adrenaline pumping up. There is just nothing remarkable about it to justify me purchasing yet another WWII shooter when, Call of Duty is still more intense and immersive than Airborne. And consider the fact the COD is an older title. Pros: +open world maps +excellent controls +excellent music +cool weapon upgrades +ragdoll physics +detailed statistics and leaderboards Cons: -Not as intense as COD -another WWII shooter -no vehicles to drive -boring multiplayer -weak missions in single player

Forget Call of Duty 3. Forget scripted blah blah blah missions. Forget endless waves of drone enemies who will let you destroy divisions of them if only you had the ammo. Airborne is fantastic! Non linear boards, intelligent enemy, great weapons, beautiful looks and sound...this game has anything you would want in a WW2 shooter. I was hesitant on the upgradeable weapons, but the upgrades are all genuine components like forward pistol grips (we call them "Ghetto Grips" in the Army today), improved muzzle breaks, better sights, larger magazines, and the ability to fire a limited number of rifle grenades off some. No death rays or anything stupid like that. Very well done game. It can be quite challenging, and patience is a must in this. You can't run and gun your way to Berlin. Ill make the suggestion right off, jump with the 1903 Sniper Rifle on every mission, ditch it for a Garand or whatever else, and come back and get it when you need it. That was the only way I could get through some of those boards. Really though, it was an excellently done game that reminded me quite a bit of Band of Brothers. No moronic squad stuff, no linear missions, no "I didn't want to be here" feeling sorry for myself garbage like in the Company of Heroes. Great and challenging shooter that will not disappoint.

I have always been a fan of the Medal Of Honor series, starting with the games for the original X-box. I just received this game today and started playing this afternoon and I am already hooked. Its a fun, straight forward game that reminds me (for some reason) of Doom, Wolfenstein and the original Call of Duty installment rolled into one. I just finished playing Splinter Cell Double Agent and it's nice to slip into a fun FPS that is nothing but continuous fun! Great graphics, game play and story....it doesn't get any better than this.

Medal of Honor: Airborne is definitely a FPS that you should own. Just as all Medal of Honor's, this game bring a realism of war that no other company brings to the table, such as authentic guns, German enemy dialogue, and actual battle locations that took place in WWII. My favorite feature of the gameplay is the full-range aim mode, that lets the gamer to have absolute control, which lets you to be able to duck behind cover, peak over walls, and look around corners without leaving your crosshairs. Another awesome feature of the game is that on every level you begin jumping out of a plane being "Airborne" that allows you to land ANYWHERE on the stage. So, if you want to start on a roof, do so, if you want to start in the smallest part of the alley, do so, and if you just want to land right in enemy chaos where the mission objective is, you can do that too, but don't expect to live very long once you hit the ground if you take that approach. One minor downfall to the game is that there is only six levels in the entire game, but don't let this discourage you, the level are very long, action packed, and have a variety of objectives plus all the guns in the game have three upgrades, according to your performance with each gun, which will unlock faster fire rates, a bigger clip, or a scope. If your a hardcore gamer and a history buff, this one is a keeper!!

One of the two best WWII FPS ever created!,

This review is from: Medal of Honor Airborne (Video Game)
If I had to choose which were the best WWII FPS's ever created, I'd definitly go for Call of Duty's "World At War" and this game, "Medal of Honor Airborne." It totally kicks Call of Duty 2 and 3's butts without a doubt and provides a revamped and timeless experience that never gets old no matter how many times you play it. Airborne marks a major departure in the format and gameplay of the Medal of Honor series. The first new element that's blatantly obvious is that the levels are no longer linear corridors; instead, they're big huge sandboxes that you can explore every inch of, from the highest rooftops to the deepest trenches. This is coupled with the fact that you start every mission parachuting out of a transport plane and can land anywhere on the map, which provides some awesome vantage points for setting up attacks on the enemy. There's also special landing locations called "skill drops," which if you find and complete all of them in the game, you win some good achievement points. This immense freedom grants you unlimited ways to play each mission and complete your objectives in any order you want. The second big difference Airborne has is the many different abilities you can perform. You can sprint for an unlimited amount of time as long as you simultaneously click the Left Thumbstick down and keep it pushed forward. You can kick enemies' grenades back at them, and while it's not quite as accurate as COD 3's mechanic where you pick it up and throw it back, it's still a valuable way to save yourself. There's a weapon upgrading system where the more kills you get with a weapon, the more experience you earn. You can upgrade each weapon a total of three times, which earns improvements such as a larger ammo clip, a longer range scope, a faster reload time, a deadlier melee attack, and a faster rate of fire. The leaning system when you aim down the sights is now better than ever, allowing you to lean out, fire a burst to take out an enemy, then back into cover silky-smooth. The sniping mechanic is even more dynamic than ever; you aim down sights when you have a sniper rifle, then you slowly squeeze the Right Trigger down until the Crosshair symbol turns red, therefore getting the most accurate shot possible. The third and final difference has to do with the A.I. and the health system. Airborne attempts to bridge the gap between ancient health pick-ups and modern-day regenerating health by creating a hybrid mechanic. There's four parts to the health bar; if you take damage and one part doesn't drain all the way, you can avoid damage and it will regenerate. If one part becomes completely empty, it won't regenerate and you have to find a medkit to fill it back up. This mechanic means that the game isn't reduced to foraging for the next health pack, but still advises you to play smart and strategic to avoid excessive damage. The A.I. reflects this, as it is much better than some previous titles. They'll use cover and blindfire, throw grenades your way, take advantage of stationary heavy machine guns, and snipe you from afar. The toughest enemy in the whole game is the Nazi Storm Elite, who has really thick body armor, carries a massive MG42 machine gun that chews through people like paper, and is extremely difficult to kill. There's three difficulty levels and even on the easiest, you can't just run 'n gun irresponsibly like in Modern Warfare. The game wasn't made that way, and that's what I like about it. The production values for the Medal of Honor series were historically inconsistent; for example, whereas the sound and the gameplay might've been awesome, the graphics were a few steps below, and vice versa. In Airborne, the first seventh-gen Medal of Honor game, everything is outstanding. The graphics are really detailed and the different missions all have a unique atmosphere about them, taking place in a village, an archealogical site, a D Day beach area, an industrial factory complex, and a massive flak tower. I love the short pre-mission sequences in the transport plane too. My two favorites are the factory complex level when every soldier in front of you gets perforated by anti-aircraft fire and you have to be the first one off the plane, and the Flak Tower where the entire front gets ripped off, taking a poor soldier with it, and you have to exit that way instead of using the normal jump hatch. The sound is equally magnificent, with solid gunfire sounds whizzing past you, big explosions, wind blowing through your parachute, tanks rumbling across the ground, and sick thuds as you whack a poor Facist with your rifle butt. I especially love the various chatter of your fellow troopers as they congradulate you on an objective accomplished or just shoot the breeze; it makes you feel like the MVP of the Airborne and that your actions really do have a big impact. And let's not forget the killer physics, which remind me a lot of the Havok Physics Engine, one of my all-time favorite physics engines. There's no pre-set death animations anywhere in this game. It's all random rag-doll animations. For me, it's the best part of the game. You can throw a grenade at a group of entrenched enemies and watch their backflips and cartwheels as they're blown sky-high. When you deliver a melee attack at the end of a sprint which causes the enemy to tumble off a really high ledge, you shout out with glee. In tight corridors, a stream of bullets will send an enemy launching backwards and splattering the wall behind them. My final verdict: Airborne is offically one of the two best WWII FPS's ever created, like I said above. Still, it pains me to see that since the COD series has taken over the video gaming industry, this game didn't get anywhere near the amount of publicity and sales that World At War got. And that unfair, because Airborne is actually better in some areas; then again, World At War is better in other areas too. Whatever. In my eyes, Medal of Honor Airborne will stand as one of the two towering monuments of the epitomy of WWII FPS gaming, and very few can challenge that hold.

This is the best Xbox 360 game I have played yet. Graphics are great, and the levels are more challenging as you go.
I prefer the WWII games and this on is by far my favorite. I wish there were more like it, and hope that there is a sequel coming.

When I was fisrt thinking of buying a 360, my parent told me I could pick two games out along with the system. At fisrt I had this game picked out along with NBA LIve 2008, but I read the reviews on this game and they weren't very good. I went with Call of Duty 4 instead and i'm glad I did. I still ended up getting Medal of Honor Airborne, just a year later, but enough about that. The game itself well made, but only features five missions. The graphics are in the same field as Call of Duty 4. The fact that you can drop down out of the planes and land anywhere. The weapons in this game are greatly improved. You get upgrades for each weapon for killing a certain number of Nazis. The gun variety in this game matches any game out there. If I were you and wondering whether to but this game or not, do yourself a favor download the demo through Xbox live or better yet wait for the Newest Medal of Honor game: Medal of Honor. Not to be confused with the original for the PS1.
