Review

Medallion Quilts, Inspiration & Patterns, by Cindy Vermilion Hamilton, includes several patterns for this type of quilt, which contains a central piece with numerous borders around it. The book explains how to make borders that fit, and how to draw your own patterns for blocks and borders. -Old Stuff, October/November, 2006

About the Author

Passionate about making quilts and a serious scholar of quilt history since the 1960s, Cindy Vermillion Hamilton (formerly Davis) is a self-taught folk artist who brings new life to traditional quilt design with her unique arrangements of color and pattern. Hand-pieced and hand-quilted medallion, sunflower, and sunburst designs are her specialties. This mother of three teaches hand techniques, lectures about her quilts, and continues to contribute patterns and articles to magazines.

The first half of the book gives you history and BEAUTIFUL colored photos of a many medallion quilts. The last half of the book offers four different medallion patterns. The patterns are full size for the applique portion of the quilts. The directions for the piecing elements are clear and easy to follow.
