Get in the beginning or don't get at all!,

The breast shells would have been great if I had them in the very, very beginnning when my nipples were adjusting to the continual abusive of being the milk machine. The problem that I found with them for continual use was that they do protect the nipple, but they also allow milk to drip out. No place for it to go! Get them before you arrive home from the hospital!

Magic Shells!,

Obviously these don't work for some people but for me these shells are the only reason I'm still breastfeeding! I love them! They are a little awkward at first but so worth it. My nipples were so sore that I almost stopped breastfeeding. They wouldn't heal because the wet nursing pad kept the moisture on them and irritated them further. Now I love nursing and the only time I don't wear the shells are in the shower! Yes they make me have pointy breasts but I still think it's worth it!

A litle uncomfy but worth it!,

If an LC or dr or anyone recommends to you to use shells, then do so! They are awkward at first but well worth using, so that you can gain a rewarding breastfeeding experience. Not a lot of money to ensure you and your baby have the relationship that is so vital! Definitely worth trying!

I think these are wonderful. A lactation consultant gave them to me because my nipples were already so sore in the hospital! They also needed to be drawn out just a tiny bit. They made nursing much easier. I would get them before you leave the hospital. They do make you leak so you have to have breast pads on hand. As long as you do, you will be fine. I will definetly use them again along with nursing pads. Eventually you wont need them, but in the beginning they are great.

Mixed Blessings,

A lactation consultant suggested the shields to me as my nipples were cracked and hurting badly. I used them for about 3 days and while they protected my nipples from my clothing, they bruised the area around my nipples causing more pain while feeding. At this point I can't tell if my daughter is latching on right or not because the pain is so bad!

Leaky Breasts!,

I purchased these breastshells because I was having a horrible time breastfeeding my newborn daughter. Breastfeeding was very painful and my nipples were terribly sore. It was recommended that I try these out. All they did was make my nipples leak a lot of milk. I couldn't even wear a shirt for 1 hour before I had big milk stains that overloaded my breast pads and bras to wet my shirt. It was a waste of money. Despite all the products to help sore nipples, the only thing that made a difference was a lot of lanolin, patience, and practice.

It worked for me,

The Maternity nurse at the hospital gave me this for flat nipples. They really helped my baby to latch on. The only problem I had with these is that they leaked, looked funny under my shirt, and I had a hard time keeping nursing pads in place while wearing them. There probably are better ones out there, but these did work. I didn't use them for sore nipples.
