Don't give up on this pump!!! Read this!,

I used this pump for two kids and it started to loose suction by the end of breastfeeding the second one. I now have a third and have been very frustrated with the half suction and how long it was taking to pump. I was about to go buy a new pump when I called Medela. They told me a SUPER EASY and FAST way to fix the suction. Now I have 100% suction and it is working great again. They said I got milk in the motor. They told me to fill a cup with warm water and put the end of one tube in it (tube is also connected to base--the other tube entrance to base is closed). Turn on the machine until you hear it really gurgling (maybe 20 secs). Then take the tube out of glass of water and let machine continue to run until all water stops coming out of the bottom of the machine base. The motor will sound normal after a minute or two and you are back to new!!! They said you can even run alcohol through it to sanitize if you want! This is something to try if changing the little white flap things doesn't work. Make sure to call Medela for the real directions, but this is a summary. Don't give up on this pump--it can work like new again. I am very happy with it!

With my son he didn't breast feed, so I was determined to have my daughter do it. After about a week of on the actual breast I started using the Double Select Breast Pump and WOW was I impressed. It helped increase my milk supply and it is so easy to use. With the optional electric powered or battery powered you can take it anywhere. I could not be happier with this product, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality breast pump.

I love this pump!!!,
This review is from: Medela Double Select Breast Pump (Baby Product)
I originally bought a Gerber single electric pump and it left my nipples very sore and enlarged. I had heard that the Medela pumps were highly recommended, so I took a chance and paid $130.00 for it. I've been using it for about four months now and couldn't be happier. I'm completely satisfied with this pump and would recommend it to anyone. I haven't had any problems with it. I've also found that if you clean it out after every use and clear the tubes once a week, you won't loose any type of suction. So if you're breastfeeding, take a chance on this breast pump!

I got this pump before my first dd was born, and I am so thankful. She had a complicated delivery and spent a week in the NICU. I had to use this pump to bring my milk in because she was unable to nurse for the first week. She took to breastfeeding as soon as we got home from the hosptial and I used the pump on and off for the first year. It worked great! I am now on baby number 2 and she is 7 months old. I am having some supply issues so I am using the pump twice a day and it still works great. It's been almost 3 years now and the pump has never failed me. I highly recommend it!

my pump also lost section after 2 1/2 months. i caled regarding the warranty and was taken through steps including cleaning tube/motor bc i had gotten milk in it. i was informed to check yellow valve/white membranr for wear/cracks/tears, etc. i was told they are very sensitive and affect the suction. after replacing them...the pump is working again and hopefully will for awhile!

Please note: NO SPEED CONTROL!!!,
This review is from: Medela Double Select Breast Pump (Baby Product)
I bought this pump trying to avoid spending $250+ on a pump. I only needed something for occasional use, however, I get hardly any milk with this pump, mainly because there is not speed control. It's just one loooooooong pumping speed, so my milk wouldn't let down (as opposed to other pumps that pump fast at first to stimulate your let down). I'm a little perplexed, honestly. I don't understand how it works for so many other women (as i see from several of the reviews) w/out any speed control. Maybe it's just me!! The only way I can get it to work is if I nurse on one side and pump on the other, which can get a bit cumbersome, and even then i still only get a couple ounces. I also got little results with the manuel pump as well, so if you're like me, forget this pump and spend the extra cash on the Pump In Style.

When my lactation consultant recommended the Medela brand pumps, I was happy to find this simple to use and relatively inexpensive pump. It got me through the first week of severe engorgement and continued to work well for several months after. I did accidentally suck milk into the pump and followed the directions in the manual on how to take care of the pump after. It never seemed to pump as strong after. Then, the other day, I got milk sucked into the motor again. I was so disappointed when two days later...the suction was almost gone. I was thinking I'd have to buy another pump, and wanted to check out the other reviews on this pump before I bought another one. I was so happy to read about the lady who called Medela and was told how to clean out the motor. I followed her directions and sucked warm water in the motor, and let it all drip out...then I sucked a little alcohol into the pump to sanitize and help dry it out. The results were INCREDIBLE! Now it is pumping like it is brand new. It's like I never sucked milk into the motor at all. I was able to pump 4 ounces in one sitting where before I was lucky to get one ounce. It was such a relief to not have to purchase another pump. So like she said...don't give up. Make sure you clean out the tubes, take the sides off and dry them off after each use (moisture always seems to get in the tubes and thus the motor, no matter how careful you are), change the membranes and this pump will be your best friend!
One last note...I got sick with Shingles when my son was about 3 months, and the medicine, along with my weak immune system, affected my milk supply. This pump, along with Fenugreek, and Mother's Milk tea saved me and brought back my milk supply. It allowed me to continue breastfeeding my son, who is now 7 months old. I don't know why so many people seemed to have problems at about 2 months. Maybe they needed to change the membranes, or clean it out. I would recommend this pump to anyone who is going to breastfead and needs to occasionally pump milk for their child.

I recommend this pump to everyone,
This review is from: Medela Double Select Breast Pump (Baby Product)
My pump is 4 years old, as I used it for my daughter, and now for my son. I pump exclusively (no nursing) and I pump 60 ounces a day with this pump. I did the same for my daughter every day for 6 months, and the pump is still going strong. I think it is absolutely worth far more than the cost. The suction is great and I couldn't live without it. I wouldn't pay more for the more expensive ones, when I can't imagine a pump doing a better job.

Not a good pump if you have supply issues and have to pump often...,
By Chancemilomiamax (Midwest) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Medela Double Select Breast Pump (Baby Product)
I bought this pump when my daughter was three months old. Upon using it at work, I realized that my milk supply was SERIOUSLY dwindling and I couldn't figure out why. I pumped three or four times per day at work, and could only get three to four ounces of milk per pumping session, on a good day! Talk about stressing me out!
I talked to a lactation consultant who explained to me that this pump isn't good for frequent pumpers, because IT ONLY PUMPS ONE SIDE AT A TIME. Yes, it is a DOUBLE electric, but the suction alternates one side and then the other. This means that in a ten minute pumping session, each breast only gets five minutes worth of pumping time. This obviously results in much less suction time than you would spend nursing, thus the reduction in your milk supply. Since I already had low supply, this pump almost ended my nursing! So steer clear of this pump and purchase the advanced pump in style if you plan to do any kind of long term pumping, like at work, for extended periods of time, or if you have to increase your supply. There is a reason that the advanced pump in style costs more: It works 100% better, is more sturdy, quieter, reliable, and will keep up your supply. This double electric pump is awkward at best, and I would spill my milk bottles and get milk into the tubing all the time. With that kind of stress, it's hard to relax for the let down. Also, the suction was really painful to my nipples. I'm glad that some people have had good results with this pump, but it totally did not work for me. As a matter of fact, mylactation consultant told me that she wouldn't recommend this pump for anyone. Too many problems, when the advanced works beautifully. Trust me, spend the money one time on the better pump; it's worth it!

I saw some poor reviews, and I have to disagree. I use this pump 4-5 times daily and it works great. It takes approximately 10 minutes to pump me dry. The suction has remained like new after many uses.
A few weeks ago my dog destroyed both air tubes, so I contacted Medela and was able to get replacement tubes overnight. I was impressed by their customer service team. My little sister is due next month and I am buying her this pump also. |
