5.0 out of 5 stars Would recommend for any baby
Once you learn to use this, it's fantastic. Turning the bottle makes it easier or harder for baby to suck out the milk. Turn it to easier when he's getting frustrated or sleepy, harder when he's getting too much and is starting to get panicky or choking.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work
Our child was born with cleft palate. We used this bottle as an alternative to the Pigeon bottle, which worked well, and we found that it required a super baby to have enough sucking power to get any milk out. After our child tried for a good ten minutes with no milk coming out, I filled it with water and tried it myself--no luck. The Pigeon bottle was perfect,...

We bought this product for our second son, who has a weak suck. I actually wish I had known about it for my first son. I'd recommend it over a regular bottle for any baby.

It fits on any Medela bottle, but the membrane is different from a regular Medela membrane, so don't lose it.

Our son was born with a cleft lip and palate. He has been doing remarkably well feeding with this bottle. We are very pleased with the Haberman feeder (except for the exorbitant price). That said, it's worth it's weight in gold to have our baby eat well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth It!, May 17, 2011
This review is from: Medela Special Needs Feeder with 80ml Collection Container #6000s (VHS Tape)
My son was born with a severe bilateral complete cleft lip and palate and this bottle was a life-saver! The idea behind the Haberman (now called the Medela Special Needs Feeder) is that the parent can assist the baby in suck by squeezing milk into the baby's mouth at the baby's desired rate. It does take a little time to get used to, and you do have to pay close attention when you're feeding your baby, but it does a great job. Without this bottle, I don't know what we would have done. The disks inside the nipple do tear fairly easily, but you can order replacement disks. The bottles are pretty expensive, considering we needed 4 - 6 so we could always have clean ones. Our insurance didn't pay for them, but it was worth the cost. Once my son got bigger, stronger, and had some palate work done, he could actually suck milk out of the bottle on his own.

I love this Item. I took it with me to China when I adopted my daughter. She had a cleft lip-cleft palate and it worked like a charm. Love it,love it,love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life-saver, August 7, 2011

My son was born with cleft lip and palate and was not able to nurse. The hospital gave us these bottles to try and they worked perfect for him. He is able to eat without having a complete palate to create suction. I have also noticed that he does not have gas issues and I attribute this to the bottles valve system. They are easy to use and clean. The slit in the nipples do start to enlarge over time, and it is recommended to replace them every 5 weeks. We have not had to do it that often, but are careful when feeding to not let the larger slit flood him. The bottles are expensive, but they are worth every penny to have him be able to eat so well. I did a lot of research and amazon was the cheapest I could find them. It was cheaper for us to order a whole bottle on amazon rather than just the nipple on other sites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilled product is available again, February 11, 2011
This review is from: Medela Special Needs Feeder with 80ml Collection Container #6000s (VHS Tape)
We used this product several years ago when our child was born with Cleft lip and palate. I'm thrilled to see that it is available again as an option. It was very different for us and the daycare in the beginning, but we all got used to it over time. When you have a child with feeding issues, get one of everything and whatever works for that child - use it. We found that it was helpful to squeeze the nipple so that it would start the flow.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work, November 21, 2010
This review is from: Medela Special Needs Feeder with 80ml Collection Container #6000s (VHS Tape)
The Pigeon bottle was perfect, however--it required no effort to get any milk out, etc. The choice is clear--only get the Haberman feeder if your baby is superbaby. Obviously it works for some, but it definitely doesn't work for all.

This is the best price that I've found on Haberman's on the internet. As my kiddo has a cleft palate, we go through quite a few of them.
