The coffee tastes great, Much better than with paper filters. But as mentioned in other reviews you get a bit too much actually "coffee" in the cup. Howeer, the flavor is of such higher quality I am willing to tolerate it. -K F (Santa Cruz)

I have a manual drip coffee maker - the plastic kind that sits on top of your coffee cup and makes one cup of coffee. This filter works great in it. Yes, the coffee comes out a little "sludgy" because more grounds get through - but I actually kind of like it that way. The water runs through the filter quite fast so I think the coffee would end up under-extracted with coarser grounds. I like not using disposable filters and I think the taste is great. It cleans well - I knock the grounds out into the compost and then rinse it in the sink or wash in the top rack of the dishwasher. It has gotten about a year of daily use and shows no signs of wear.

I attempted to purchase a Melita "Take2" coffee maker. Amazon listed one for about $37 w/ shipping. Amazon suggested that I should purchase the permanent filter together w/ the coffee maker. I bought them both, and in selecting my options at checkout I was informed that for an extra fee they would ship the items seperately; I opted to pass on that, as I wanted both to arrive at the same time. About a week later, I recieved the Medelco coffee filter--but no coffee maker! Then after about another ten days, Amazon sends me an email asking if I want to wait until the middle of March for them to keep trying to find the Melita coffee maker! After cancelling my Amazon "order", I bought a "Take2" on Ebay. However, I have found that the "recommended" Medelco filter does not fit quite properly into the "Take2" coffee maker--the cover/lid will not fully close into place w/ the permanent filter in it. It is a good quality filter, but I wonder which permanent filter would be the appropriate one to recommend for the Melita "Take2"?
