Good but one BIG problem,
This review is from: Medelco 8 Cup Glass Stovetop Percolator (Kitchen)
I loved this thing but it broke in two weeks.
The glass container that holds the coffee just broke while i was washing it. it is very thin and can be easily cracked or broken. While i had it though it made good coffee.

I was looking for a small coffeemaker that I could store under the counter. I wanted something small, easy to use, and easy to clean. I bought this percolator at K-mart for around ten dollars. I am now shopping for a new percolator because:
- Glass is very thin, people get freaked out when I tell them I put it on the stove. It makes creaky sounds sometimes and I'm scared it's going to burst on the stove one of these days. - The holes in the basket are large, so you have to use very coarse ground coffee. We buy our coffee pre-ground, and it is always too fine. It gets into the coffee, which bugs me a little. - It's easy to clean, but otherwise awkward to use. Pulling the basket out is treacherous, and all the interior parts are plastic. I have burned myself pulling the basket out. - The inside parts are all plastic, and I'm uncomfortable putting plastics on the stove-top. I would prefer an all-glass solution, such as the Chemex carafe. So, if none of those things bother you, this is an affordable coffee-maker that works.

I used to have a glass percolator when percolators were the only way to make coffee. This is made just the way the old ones were and I love it. If you've only used a drip coffee maker, this will take a little getting used to, but it makes excellent coffee.

This comes with a ring for electric stoves also.
The plastics are very high quality and the glass is the best lab quality glass. The glass is made in Germany but the rest and assembly is in the United States. I was happy to have had the opportunity to speak with the owner of the company and she gave me some history on the compnay and how her products are made. She would like to have had these mad here in the USA entirely but the quality of lab glass is not available here right now. She was very nice ..heard her dogs in the background. My wife loves this thing. We got it just in case the electricity goes out for our home here in Maine ..we'd have coffee still. We also bought the tea kettle and it is excellent also. This thing is simple and easy to use. One thing I would like to see some mention on how safe the pastics are when heated, are they tested to be non toxic? I'd presume so. Thank you Medelco.

Remember to...,
This review is from: Medelco 8 Cup Glass Stovetop Percolator (Kitchen)
I had the percolator when I was in college. It worked great. Remember to remove the percolator from the stovetop. I left it on the stovetop a few times on the low setting thinking that the coffee would keep warm that way. It did, BUT unknown to me was that the longer it's kept on the stovetop, the stronger the coffee got. Lets just say I had no problems staying awake for classes those days and no sleep those nights.

Best Cup of Coffee I've Ever Had,

I purchased this percolator for my father because he always said it made the best coffee. He was right, the coffee is a lot better when percolated. It is the same style as old percolators used to be. It's great to make coffee if you lose power, if you're camping, and we use it on our boat. The glass is thin so be careful placing the hot pot on cool objects. Be sure to buy the proper filters if you purchase this item.

We love this stove top percolator. No stores carry this anymore since percolators are not in, however this makes the best, HOT coffee. And the preparation time is no more than an electric coffee maker. Highly recommend it, it's a great value for the price.

I bought this item because I live in a travel trailer and wanted a way to make coffee when I just make a stop in a rest area. This item does the job very well. it is well built and has been knocked off the stove onto the floor and still keeps working well. If you like old-fashioned perc coffee, this is the one for you.

Ok, so maybe these aren't the "latest and greatest", but they sure do the job. Only cons I have are that the "instructions" are not quite sufficient, unless you already know what you're doing. Thankfully my grandmother has one, and gave me some tips (like using a filter *in* the basket, since the standard grind of coffee they sell today is too fine for this, and would fall through the little basket holes otherwise), and also, how much coffee to put in the basket is anyone's guess....as is how long to percolate it. I guess it all depends how strong you like your coffee, but for someone who has had the whole process automated *for me* for as long as I can think and I've never had to gauge any of that myself, it was a bit daunting. But after a few trial runs, you get the hang of it.
Personally, I bought this as a backup coffee maker for when my in-laws come (we have a tassimo, and with how much coffee they drink, it's imperative to have a whole pot (or 2) available to them...otherwise I would run out of t-discs daily...) And also, it was a bit of a nostalgia thing too. Like I said, my grandparents have one, and to this day, it is what they brew their coffee in every morning, and so it means a lot to me to have one too now. Bottom line, it's good as a backup, it's good for people who really like to have a "hands on" experience, or don't want to invest in one of the big counter-top models, and my favorite part; the whole thing is dishwasher safe! :)

this glass coffee pot would be fine except, the stem on the top of the basket is way too short wery hard to hold.
i can see no reason for it to be that way, it dosen't make sense to me. Its ok otherwise. |
