Medelco 12 Cup Glass Pause & Serve Universal Replacement Carafe - Black

We had a terrible time trying to find a replacement carafe for our Gevalia Coffee Maker Model XCC-12. Gevalia sells replacement carafes but they always seem to be on back order. So we tried to find another brand and read a user comment that the Medelco Universal Replacement Carafe works in Gevalia Coffee Makers. We just weren't sure which Gevalia model and which Medelco model works well together. So please note that the Medelco 12-cup Universal Replacement Coffee Carafe Model GL220 fits and WORKS GREAT in Gevalia Coffee Maker Model XCC-12. The replacement carafe comes with a LID ADAPTOR which we attached and use. The "pause & serve" feature on the coffee maker works fine, too with this setup. We placed a call to Medelco Inc. 1-888-MEDELCO (or 203-275-8070) for advice and also note that their customer service is excellent!

Excellent product and it fit our Gevalia coffeemaker perfectly.My only reservation is that the handle is glued on instead of strapped on. That's why I gave it 4 stars.

I bought one last year and have just ordered another one to have as a standby. I had been concerned about the "glued on" handle, but it is actually sturdy. I needed this to replace a Mr. Coffee decanter model PD13 for my Mr. Coffee model PRX33. I like the lid on this product. It is a thick plastic and it comes off easily for washing. The handle is not that comfortable to hold because there is a hollow in the middle with the edges slanted up to form ridges, but what does it matter? I only have to hold it for an instant while I pour my coffee. I am happy to have this product so that I can keep my old coffee maker going.

This product does not fit Cuisinart models. When I received the box, it clearly described what coffee makers it fit. This should be on the desciption online. Also, I am now having to return at my own expense. Amazon.com does not stand by its products.

The glass carafe replacement pot is my second for my workhorse Krups ProAroma coffee maker. Will return the carafe, paying $6. postage myself to Amazon. The first replacement carafe I just broke was from Bed, Bath & Beyond was made by Melitta. They no longer carry it and is not available online anywhere. The Medelco is the only 12-cup replacement carafe I could find that looked like the correct proportion. There were no measurements available. It is just a hair too wide to fit smoothly into the old coffee maker. It is snug and would have to be carefully pulled out with two hands. The worst part, however, is the design of the lid. Even with the enclosed adapter piece, it does not function properly and coffee will not dispense from the basket. My make-shift solution is an 8-cup glass Pyrex measuring pitcher. Cannot brew 12 cups, only 4 at a time. Tried the newest, fanciest Krups coffee maker but had to return it to Bed, Bath due to bad engineering. Drinking tea might be easier!

Bought this to fit my Gevalia pause 'n serve coffeemaker after reading a review from someone else who said it fit their Gevalia coffeemaker great. Did not fit mine at all! Very disappointing. If you're considering buying this carafe, I would recommend checking with the company (Medelco) in advance to find out if it will work with your coffemaker, something I now wish I had done. Otherwise, the carafe seemed fine, just didn't work with my coffeemaker.

I guess this carafe serves its purpose, but it is in no shape or form a replacement for an original. We have a "free" Gevalia coffee maker and because the original was backordered at Gevalia, we had to go with this Medelco replacement. While it fits nicely, it is most certainly not a high quality product, even for the cheap coffee maker that we have. The first shipment came with a snapped lid - I can see how that could happen even in a box, as the lid is super thin plastic.

Overall, I think this is a temporary carafe until you can buy the original - it will not withstand the test of time.

I needed a replacement carafe for a coffeemaker in the office. I saw that Medelco makes these "universal" replacements...but noticed that in some instances Amazon customers were leaving them negative feedback, that the replacements didn't fit as promised. So I wrote to Medelco customer service asking if this particular replacement would fit my particular coffee maker. I received a reply that yes it would. What customer service did NOT tell me was that there are two little pieces of plastic in the box and a 3"x3" square of paper that explain that if you use certain models they will ONLY work if you put one of the little adaptors into the top. We discovered that after the first use of the carafe - with coffee bubbling over the sides of the maker. I was about to return it when I remembered the little bits of plastic...sure enough, you snap one in and then the carafe fits.

It's a clever system for which Medelco ought to get credit. But because they don't tell you here, or on their website, or on their chart showing which model to buy OR EVEN IF YOU ASK CUSTOMER SERVICE I'm sure they get lots of returns and dissatisfied customers.

You can't beat the price. I like that the lid has the extension that can be removed after drip process...makes it easier to take the carafe on and off the burner (especially when guests are helping themselves).

Bought this for my KitchenAid Java studio coffeemaker. It is a good quality carafe but is not a direct replacement for the original. Medelco claims the GL220 is the correct model for my coffeemaker. But to make it work without spilling over, you have to first remove the spring on the pause n' serve which makes it useless. Then you have to remove the lid to brew because it tends to run over at the very end of the brewing cycle. But for the price compared to the original replacement (less than half) if you do both fixes it might still be worth it despite these shortcomings.
