Book Description

April 3, 2000
It happens all too frequently: boys prematurely being thrust into manhood in a war zone. Eric Macintosh is like all young men, not ready to face the ugliness of combat, not prepared for death. Yet, with the enthusiasm of the innocent he throws himself into the middle of hell when the US Army sends him to Vietnam as a Medevac helicopter pilot. Eric is coming of age faster than he had expected or desired. He witnesses carnage as he tries to rescue his buddies from the savagery of a war that nobody wanted to fight, and he sees death in its gruesome face more often than any young man his age. Eric grows into an all-American hero, but it comes at a heavy loss. A gripping and powerful story, Medevac is told in stark images by a man whose autobiography this book could easily have been. It brings to life the deeply troubling human tragedy of the Vietnam era, as it highlights the deep-rooted decency and compassion of one extraordinary man.
