***In-app purchase of $4.99 gives you Chromecast support (Google Play Services required), casting to Apple TV, Roku, WebOS and UPnP/DLNA enabled devices, access to Dropbox, support for themes and an ad-free interface.***

It's been almost a year since Avia's Chromecast release. Chromecast has been a success for Avia, to say the least. To add to the sweetness, we're now supporting casting to Apple TV, Roku and WebOS devices along with an updated UI, icons and themes. Avia 7.2 also offers overall stability improvements. Here are the features of 7.2:

- Updated user interface with simpler navigation and smoother response
- New icons throughout the app
- Casting to Apple TV
- Casting to Roku devices (need to install Avia for Roku)
- Casting to WebOS enabled TVs
- Improved stability and support for the latest Google Chromecast software
- Full playback control from your phone or tablet
- Music album artwork and artist images displayed on your TV

And of course, Avia still allows you to: Share your photos, videos and music on these devices: Chromecast / Roku / Apple TV /WebOS TV's / Xbox One / Google TV / PC / Mac

Play and manage media stored on your Android device, in the cloud or from these devices: Facebook / Dropbox / Google+ Photos (Picasa) / Network Attached Storage (NAS) / Windows Media Player (WMP) / XBMC / Serviio / Plex / Subsonic / PC / Mac / Other Android Devices

Finally, here are a few pieces of advice to get the most out of Avia:
- To cast to Roku devices, please install the Avia for Roku channel that will appear on your Roku screen.
- Make sure your Android device and device you want to cast to, e.g. Chromecast, are using the same Wi-Fi network.
- When using Avia to access media from other devices, they must have UPnP/DLNA serving enabled.
- When casting from Avia, files MUST be compatible with the receiving device. Many devices have fewer compatible codecs than a home computer.
- Please review your media formats with the specifications of your devices before attempting to cast. (Example: Chromecast is not compatible with .AVI files.) Please see the video conversion guide at
If you have questions, comments or feedback, please check out our support page at

If the Chromecast icon is still missing, troubleshoot suggestions are below :
- Reboot WiFi router (optional: change WiFi channel), reset factory settings on Chromecast, rename Chromecast and re-install Avia.

The design of this player is really good. However, when used on the Kindle Fire to play my own mp4 files of films and shows there is a major problem. The problem is that mp4-encoded films that are in widescreen format are force-fitted to the Fire's screen in a way that messes up the displayed aspect ratio. All the films that I have tried to play were rendered with an aspect ratio that was about 16% too "tall", causing everything to look stretched vertically. For instance, a film with a true aspect ratio (correctly rendered from the same mp4 file as 2.385:1 on my PC and on an iPad) was rendered on the Fire as 2.068:1. Another film that had a true aspect ratio of 2.237:1 was rendered as 1.987:1. I find this "squeezing" of the image to be so annoying that I have given up trying to watch films on the Fire using my own mp4 files. (Amazon-coded films, bought from Amazon, do not suffer from this problem.)

I suspect that the root cause lies within Amazon's code, not in this particular app, since the same problem occurs with the Fire's native video player. However, I make this comment here in the hope that the developer of this app will put pressure on Amazon to either (a) fix the underlying problem, or (b) tell them how to correct for the issue within the video player app.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little viewer for the Kindle Fire! November 27, 2011
Looked around for a reputable media player for the Kindle Fire and stumbled across this one. Great app on a little machine, found all video, photo and audio files for me to decide what I wanted to do next. Tapped "Play" and it scrolled through my photos just loaded on the K-Fire. Great App!

1.0 out of 5 stars battery sucking app even while sleeping May 5, 2012

It took me some time to figure out why the kindle fire while sleeping was loosing 40 to 50% battery in about 8 hours.. for some reason this app was still operating or not letting the kindle go into a full sleep. I found it by using a battery monitoring app. I've removed the player and my kindle is working fine again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent media player for Kindle Fire November 22, 2011

I was searching for s media player to play movies and photos in my Kindle Fire, by streaming from my desktop computer. This app does exactly what I was looking for. I set up a home group wick network and shared my photos and videos. the app immediately identified it and I was able to play them.
the only downside is that Fire wont recognise all video formats.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless on Kindle October 15, 2012

Downloaded on my Kindle Fire to be able to view an AVI file that was unplayable with the standard viewer. Downloaded it along with its recommended codecs, still unable to play. A video player with codecs that can't play standard video formats isn't worth having.

1.0 out of 5 stars never worked September 8, 2012
By D. Cole

I tried following all of the instructions and could not get this app to work. it needs a separate component that you have to download and install and that download is just not available anywhere. Sorry to give it such a bad review, but it simply is 100% useless for me without that separate component that IT needs.
