5.0 out of 5 stars Tricks of the trade
This book is full of tricks of the trade. In particular, I like the chapters on "When You Want to Talk" and "When You Don't Want to Talk". Talking is not always the best strategy. Taping the power of silence is sometimes a better aternative.

If you are looking for an instruction guide on how to manage reporters ... you are going to be as disappointed as I was when this book arrived in the mail. If you are expecting a book that will provide detail by detail explanations, this book isn't it. However, this book will provide a nice compliment to anyone's everyday experience working within PR and communications-related fields. With just slightly under a year of experience in PR under my belt, I felt this book definitely benefitted me. The examples provided enough detail for anyone to grasp the various arguments. The best piece of advice he gave repeatedly throughout the book still holds true in 2007, "tell the truth when dealing with the media."

I found it entertaining from beginning to end and I'm comfortable recommending it to anyone.

This book is brimming over with useful nuggets on how to deal with reporters. Stauffer shows how the real world of small and mid-sized media markets operate on a daily basis. Most of his insights are still hihgly relevant taoday, nearly a decade after he wrote the book.

The essential message from the author, who tells you he is a reporter on the cover of his book, is primarily that we should talk to reporters. He gives very little real insight on how to deal with aggressive reporters who will do anything to get an "angle" on a story. I wish I hadn't purchased it.
