Works great,

I've tried different products of heat therapy for my lower back and find MediBeads the best so far. ThermaCare (based on iron salt oxidation) is not reusable and costs add up quickly. And I don't like electric pads because of EMF concerns.
This pad lasts about 15 min for me. I have it inside some clothing against the back of a chair, and press it closer as it cools. It works pretty well. Another reviewer complained that it never got hot enough and cooled too quickly. I found while I only need to heat 1m45s in my kitchen built-in microwave, it would take 3m30s to heat to the same level in my 700W microwave. You just need to heat it longer, although the label says it should not exceed 2m30s. I guess that's their lawyer's advice.

THe beads work well in retaining heat but the style of the item is cumbersome. It uses a tie feature that is uncomfortable if using the heating pad on the lower back, as the tie feature does not allow for the closest fit to the back.

I got this item for my grandma for Christmas and she absolutely adores it. Normally she's the type of old lady that would reject every single present either saying, "I have it already" or "I don't need it". At first she was hesitant about the product but after I threw it in the microwave for a few minutes and had her try it out, she loved it and now she carries the heat wrap around almost daily.
There is one slight down side to the head wrap, it doesn't have an easy removable cover you can remove to wash. If you get the wrap dirty (leftover spaghetti sauce splatters in the microwave) you're going to have to find a way to sponge it off or wash the whole thing all together. But you can easily get around that by making a small removable cover yourself, or just make sure your microwave is absolutely clean before you throw the wrap in. Overall my grandmother loves it, and that makes me a happy customer.

It was a gift for someone else, but they have really liked it and found it more durable than other competing designs. Well constructed.

It doesn't get hot enough, nor does it stay hot for more than 10 minutes.

My mother got me and my grandfather each one of these for Christmas.
He had back surgery and still has intense pain, and I have fibromyalgia and often have back pain. We are both immensely grateful for the relief. He uses his continuosly as long as he is awake. I am going to get the king size pad for him to try, also. I have used mine a lot, until a mishap today. My sister was heating it for me in a new microwave, and somehow a hole got burned in it. I'm here to buy a new one, since it has been so helpful. I took off a star for the burning (even though it might be our fault), and just wanted people to realize the potential problem. |
