I abosolutely love this book! It is easy to find your symptoms and find out what the possible diagnoses are. Also, when you have been diagnosed, you can see both the traditional and alternative treatments. I use the drug index to check out every prescription I'm given. It also has excellent pictures that helps in understanding the diseases. I've used it often to see when a situation is urgent or not. My friends often call me and ask me to "look it up in your medical book," because it has proven itself to be reliable.

I bought The Medical Advisor in 1997 and it's one of the most important books I own. I use it to look up my symptoms whenever I get sick and check out all my medicine in the large drug reference section. This book is wonderfully comprehensive. Each topic is covered in four pages or less. In ten to fifteen minutes you find out what you need to know. The text is well written and consistently uses language everyone can understand. That's why every home can use The Medical Advisor.

Im 16 years old and interested in being a doctor. This book has a lot of information ranging from an atlas of the body to what to do in certain emergencies. But the main part of the book is an alphabetized index that explains in detail things from bee stings, to pneumonia, to back pain. It shows conventional methods along with alternative methods like acupressure and herbal remedies. This is a great book to have around the house and doesn't cost as much as some medical books do.

This book is very informative and has helped me numerous times to make correct judgements.

On one occasion, my father-in-law felt nausea and had double vision. He was sent to hospital. The doctor there said that he was perfectly okay and was going to send him home. After consulting the book, I suspected that he had had a stroke. When we told the doctor, he said it was not likely and insisted that he was okay to go home.

We went to another hospital regardless of what the doctor said. The doctor at the second hospital said that it was a good thing he looked for help in time otherwise the stroke would leave permanent damage to his sytem.

I am not saying this book can replace your doctors. But at least we can understand more of a lot of common diseases, and hopefully we can catch what mistakes doctors made instead of trusting them blindly.

I find this book to be incredibly helpful, packed with information that is organized in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner. I am a librarian, and really appreciate a truly useful reference book! It's great for giving general overviews and is also very easy to dip into when a specific need arises. I've found it helpful in answering questions about my small children's health as well.

This great medical book gives you both alternative treatments that your doctor may not know, and conventional treatments. Your health is up to you to take care of, and you need to know as much as possible about it. This book is easily laid out to find what you are looking for. I have given a copy to all my children and some of my employees and this purchas was for wedding presents.

Suitable for any stage of life, this book is an excellent reference book. It has a huge number of ailments covered and gives both the conventional and alternative treatments, plus warnings on when to see your doctor. At the back are some great appendices, including: acupressure points, childhood disease examples, drug reference, etc.

I actually bought the Medical Advisor (The Complete Guide to Alternative and Conventional Treatments) when it first came out in hardcover in 1996 and nothing has rivaled it since for what it does. It is thoroughly researched, easy to read, with abundant pictures to make things as clear to you as possible. They start alphabetically with the diseases explaining what major symptoms mean and then they tell you what they would recommend if you want to consult a medical physician.
They give equal time to a formidable number of herbal and other natural and homeopathic remedies along with safety of use and other guidelines. All of this is done in a thorough , non judgemental way, so you can decide for yourself what you might like to try with no pressure from them.
There are excellent sections concerning the basics of yoga, how to give emergency first aid, explanations of acupressure and acupuncture.It is amazing to me that this book has not been revised and updated,considering the numerous advances that have been made in traditional medicine, and so much of what used to be called "quack" alternative medicine has gained more and more respect over the past 11 years. Even so, this 1996 version is top notch and very applicable
even now.

This medical book references every possible medical problem that a person can face. I refer to it a lot whenever an aliments appear. Most of the time when I go visit my doctor, I already know what my medical problem is and of course this helps him out a great deal. Whether it be a simple cold or flu or something more serious, this book will guide you in how to make intelligent medical decisions and become more educated regarding you health.
