Dear Kindle Readers,

1. At this time (September, 2010) the encyclopedia is compatible with the Kindle Reading Device ONLY. It is NOT compatible with the Kindle for PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod, BlackBerry, and Android.
2. Please make sure you have at least 100MB of free memory before downloading the paid version to the Kindle Device.
3. To search for a word, just start typing the word. The alphabetical list of available articles is updated as you type.
4. Text-to-speech is disabled (text-to-speech Kindle function is not compatible with books in dictionary format at this time).
5. Every time you add a new book to your library, the Kindle indexes the book. Indexing is necessary for searching books and cannot be disabled. At times, this process can slow down the Kindle significantly and can even freeze your device. To avoid this, simply charge the Kindle overnight after you download a large book. The Kindle will index the book while it is being charged.
If you notice that Kindle has slowed down significantly, please restart the Kindle: HOME > MENU > SETTINGS > MENU > RESTART Then charge the Kindle overnight to allow indexing.

Medical Encyclopedia - the World's Biggest Medical Encyclopedia for Mobile Devices. 150,000 Articles. (Mobi Medical)

My family has always relied on the old Medical Encyclopedia; this new electronic edition is terrific. It has more definitions and more practical information. It contains medical abbreviations and terminology, drugs and chemicals, anatomy illustrations, medical tests and nutrition, and much more... It has over 150,000 interlinked articles!
With all the questionable health information on the Web, it's good to have all the basics in an up-to-date guide from a source you can trust. It's a great way to look up symptoms, diseases, body parts, etc, without having to go online. I think every household should have one.

On a Kindle this is a great resource, no question. But on your computer the color images make this book visually very appealing and inviting to use. Even fun. I am most pleased!

Too cluttered. Topics appear to be hurriedly written. Difficult to navigate and find the relevant material. However, is comprehensive and contains almost any topic you are likely to encounter in medicine.

Several problems with this purchase:

1. It is in "dictionary format", meaning it is indexed so that the Kindle's built-in software can quickly look up items. But only on certain models! The Kindle Fire, among others, does not utilize dictionary format.

2. You will notice that the box is checked for "text to speech", but the publisher states in its comments that text to speech is disabled.

3. The publisher states that it's the biggest. Well, no wonder. It's jammed with articles that have little to do with a medical encyclopedia. Want to learn about Hank Aaron? Well, it's in there, and the article has nothing to do with medicine. You can do a basic search in the text, but it takes forever to complete, the results are in random paragraphs that will likely do you no good unless you happen to luck upon the right one, and then you have to wait for another search to complete before you can look at the next result. Not useable.

This item should be removed from the market until the publisher removes the bloat (which would mean it is no longer the largest) and tells people which Kindle models are and are not compatible.

I was using this encyclopedia for the sake of convenience in a class, and noticed that many of the entries are taken verbatim from wikipedia pages. While still an excellent resource to have, particularly if no internet access is available, if you are using this product as a casual reference or to satisfy your curiosity, you might as well just hop onto an online encyclopedia.

Takes waaaaaaay too long to look anything up, if it even recognizes the term I'm looking for. Wish I could get my money back; don't waste your time!!!

This expansive work has provided a more thorough treatment of subjects which I have previously studied. It is a most helpful resource.

I have used this one very little. It is a good reference book. I would recommend this book for any one in or out of the medical field
