5.0 out of 5 stars An important contribution, January 21, 2011
This review is from: Medical Malpractice and the American Jury: Confronting the Myths about Jury Incompetence, Deep Pockets, and Outrageous Damage Awards (Paperback)
Vidmar's work here provides a perspective on the medical malpractice debate that is not well-understood by many - including some researchers and scholars in the field. The book is supported by solid research (at times addressing shortcomings in previous work in this area). Without question, an important contribution to the field. Highly recommended.

As a physician who has been practicing for a couple of years now but thankfully had never been sued this book was a great way to learn more about the process. (I was thankful my case was not legitamite and I was dropped from the case very early on.) I was suprised to read the stastics it contains regarding outcomes at trials. It helped change a few details of how I chose to word my office notes to protect myself legally if needed in the future. If you don't have a good understanding of the medical legal process I highly recommend this book.

Finally some empirical truth on this issue: rich insurance companies playing doctors and lawyers against each other like pawns. The real losers are the patients.
