3.0 out of 5 stars terse and with inaccuracies
By the table of contents, I thought this book would be well organized. Many medical statistics books have inaccuracies regarding use of chi-square test, how to analyse small group data, etc. This has inaccuracies in tables (such as recommending yates correction of chisquare test for expected values less than 5) that don't even match the text. It has tests with poor examples and lack of steps for even use of the test under discussion. I would recommend Practical Statistics for Medical Research as a much better textbook for actually understanding and performing statistical tests encountered in the medical field.

2.0 out of 5 stars Riddled with errors, October 30, 2011
This review is from: Medical Statistics: A Textbook for the Health Sciences (Paperback)
The first 20 pages (all I've read so far) are riddled with grammatical errors and typos (e.g., "One categorical variable recorded was the type of delivery. in five categories as displayed in Table 2.1." (p. 15); "Commonly, one my chose" (p. 17); "If we anticipate that the treatment to reduce some bad outcome (such as deaths) then it may be known as the absolute risk reduction" (p. 17)). I figured I could just ignore these, but then I ran across this on page 18: "...is 20/100,000 = 0.00002". I'm sorry, but this is inexucusable in an introductory textbook. Shame on the publisher for doing such a shabby copy-editing job. These errors don't give me much faith in the material yet to come in the book!
