This book is one of the best i've seen when it comes to Medical Surgical Nursing. It gives you the definition and why it happened, the prognosis, treatment, hallmark signs and sypmtpoms, tests, nursing diagnoses, and the nursing interventions. Very good to prepare for clinicals and when writing care plans, best of all it is easy to understand and simple, not long like the usual Med-Surg books. I recommend this to use before clinicals and when reviewing for exams.

I'm a nursing student and this book was a god save to have at clinicals. It's informative of the disease process, tells all the sign and symptoms your likely to see as well as abnormal labs, and best of all it tells what treatment to expect to be done...love it!

I had such high hopes for this book, but as I started reading it, I found so many mistakes! Some of the diagrams are mislabeled and there are typos as well as completely wrong information. If you're learning this material for the first time or using it to review, it's very frustrating if you don't trust the information you are reading! Save your money, totally not worth it!

I am repeating Med Surg and was in a total panick when I was looking for books to help me this sememster. I saw this one and was not sure if I would like it or not but other reviews were favorable so I got it. Well... I LOVE IT!!! It breaks the disease processes down and cuts out the "fluff" of what is in my text book. So far, along with this book and I am guessing being a repeat, I am understanding the material so much better. I would say if you are a repeat... get it!!! It will help!! If this is your first time.. Get it!!! It will help!!!!!!!! I so recommend it to anyone!!!!

This is a great book to prepare for either the Associate Level or Bachelor Level of Excelsior College Med-Surg Nursing exams, to help in understanding A&P, or to prepare to enter LP/VN school. (I used it by itself to prepare for Bachelor Level Med-Surg Exam and did fine.) It provides those nuggets of knowledge necessary to do well, and NCLEX style review exams at the end of each chapter as an aid to test your grasp of that topic.

Chapters are arranged by body system, and also include an overview of normal and abnormal lab values that are associated with those systems. Anatomy and Physiology of each system is detailed. Mental health is treated near the end of the text. At the very end of the book is a 100 question multiple choice NCLEX style comprehensive "final exam" over all body systems. Answers to all the test questions follow the comprehensive exam questions.

Written in plain language, this would also be good to use as an adjunct to books used in a classroom based course, or to prepare to enter LP/VN school if you're nervous about all the new information you will be required to learn in a very short time frame. It would also be helpful if you anticipate, or are having a tough time understanding human anatomy and physiology.

This book gets a high recommendation from me.

Pros: Well written and very well organized.
Easy to understand and doesn't make things too complicated.
Fast way to get a feel for the subject matter.

Cons: Overly simplistic to the point of leaving out important things.
Doesn't give priorities to the interventions.
Each disease could use a section on meds, diet and patient teaching when appropriate.

I'm a first year nursing student and I got this and the Incredibly Easy book to see which was better. This is a good book overall and in some respects, mainly the layout and straight forward presentation, it is better than the Incredibly Easy bood.

It's organized well, along the same lines as the medical-surgical text and it's straight forward and easy to understand. The problem is that it's a little too easy. Not everything is included. Three notable examples are diet, patient teaching and meds for each different diseases. They are there but not enough information is given about them. Another problem I had was although signs and symptoms are listed there is no section for assessments and interventions aren't prioritized.

Bottom line if you want a simple primer to get familiar with the material get this book. It won't replace the text but it is better written, presented and easier to understand than the other.

This book has been worth it and it is in a lot fewer words and what you can understand.

I have bought the small 'optional' med-surg book for school and found myself using this instead. I downloaded it on my I-pod and take it with me. LOVE IT. It is also 1/2 as much as other books.

It gives an overview of the body system, a brief patho-phys overview of the condition (why it happened), prognosis, signs & symptoms, test result interpretation, treatments, nursing diagnosis, and interventions.

Good stuff, worth the price.

This is a great book because it goes through all of the medical diagnosis's out there and explains them, elaborates as to why a person has them, how to treat them, what to look for, etc. I took it with me on clinicals and when I had a patient I would look up their diagnosis in this book and it would explain it to me in my terms so I could more easily understand it. Great book to have in your medical collection.
