This is required reading for me but sheesh could they have assigned a worse text? This text is so densely packed with wordy information that no mere mortal could ever retain this much info or even take away a good understanding of it. It would help if important points of information were bulleted but it is practically giant walls of text from cover to cover. Yes, it has some highlighted charts, but again it is so densely packed it makes synthesizing the main points so time consuming. Trying to find the answer to a question or concern is like finding a needle in a haystack with this text. Worse yet, the text does not adequately prepare students for the tests designed for the text book. The textbook does not show the student how to apply nursing applications to health situations though the text's test questions test on that sort of knowledge. There is a definite disconnect between what is being taught and what is being expected of students.

Another point of contention is despite this being a very wordy tome on pathophysiology and the science of nursing, many of the text's explanations about those processes were poorly explained and required me to seek outside information to actually understand the topic. For example the section on ABGs was confusing and was definately not adequate to understand the topic despite the fact that it was covered very thouroughly in the test questions for that chapter. I augment the material in this book with online material and videos to understand each topic because this text just doesn't cut it.

This text is so freaking heavy at 20+ lbs that I dread lifting it or taking it to class. Overall it is just not a very good textbook.

There are a lot of questions in this book with wrong answers listed. This is very frustrating as a nursing student!

This was the book my program assigned for both Med-Surg I and II, and it was less than ideal. As at least one other reviewer stated, the usable information in this book is buried within wordy text that does not make synthesis an easy task. There are other nursing books out there that are much easier to comprehend, and this subject is made all the harder with an incomprehensible book. Eventually, it simply became easier to find the info I needed through other sources, like the ATI books we had to buy. Avoid this book if you can, and I'm sorry if you can't.

I just bought this for nursing school. And there is no way to jump pages. Please fix this. I do not have time in nursing school to scroll through almost 2000 pages by hand to keep up with the class. I bought this to make my life easier and at over 100.00 you would think it would have a location button. Its missing completely.

Since it's required for 3 med-surg classes, I'd have to say it was a good value. But it's hard for me to read (dry), and difficult to find what you're looking for.

this med surg nursing book is so densely populated with vital information, one would wish to carry it every were I go, so that in lull times and in studying time I can always be on the cutting edge with the latest info, however I did not realize this book also comes in volumes for easier transport, this is my only problem

Seems as though they could have made the same points with less words..... does convey the messages. Few more pictures of disease would have been nice. Book has a section, every chapter, with NCLEX style questions...still have not found where they hide the answers. I used this as required text for RN Refresher course.

This book is the best nursing text I have come across during my studies. It prepares you for an understanding needed to pass the NCLEX. I rate it higher than Kozier & Erb, and Potter & Perry texts as it is a much easier read.

Some students may find the reading difficult if they are not strong in their A&P or are impatient readers...but hey that's nursing school, you just have to live and breath your text books.
