This is required reading for me but sheesh could they have assigned a worse text? This text is so densely packed with wordy information that no mere mortal could ever retain this much info or even take away a good understanding of it. It would help if important points of information were bulleted but it is practically giant walls of text from cover to cover. Yes, it has some highlighted charts, but again it is so densely packed it makes synthesizing the main points so time consuming. Trying to find the answer to a question or concern is like finding a needle in a haystack with this text. Worse yet, the text does not adequately prepare students for the tests designed for the text book. The textbook does not show the student how to apply nursing applications to health situations though the text's test questions test on that sort of knowledge. There is a definite disconnect between what is being taught and what is being expected of students.

Another point of contention is despite this being a very wordy tome on pathophysiology and the science of nursing, many of the text's explanations about those processes were poorly explained and required me to seek outside information to actually understand the topic. For example the section on ABGs was confusing and was definately not adequate to understand the topic despite the fact that it was covered very thouroughly in the test questions for that chapter. I augment the material in this book with online material and videos to understand each topic because this text just doesn't cut it.

This text is so freaking heavy at 20+ lbs that I dread lifting it or taking it to class. Overall it is just not a very good textbook.

There are a lot of questions in this book with wrong answers listed. This is very frustrating as a nursing student!

This was the book my program assigned for both Med-Surg I and II, and it was less than ideal. As at least one other reviewer stated, the usable information in this book is buried within wordy text that does not make synthesis an easy task. There are other nursing books out there that are much easier to comprehend, and this subject is made all the harder with an incomprehensible book. Eventually, it simply became easier to find the info I needed through other sources, like the ATI books we had to buy. Avoid this book if you can, and I'm sorry if you can't.

I just bought this for nursing school. And there is no way to jump pages. Please fix this. I do not have time in nursing school to scroll through almost 2000 pages by hand to keep up with the class. I bought this to make my life easier and at over 100.00 you would think it would have a location button. Its missing completely.

Seems as though they could have made the same points with less words..... does convey the messages. Few more pictures of disease would have been nice. Book has a section, every chapter, with NCLEX style questions...still have not found where they hide the answers. I used this as required text for RN Refresher course.

This textbook is very user friendly in the kindle version, and is an easy read. Kudos! The only thing I have not cared for is the setup for scrolling through the chapters in the table of contents. I would prefer that when I open the table, it start where I left off last instead of gong back to chapter one each time. I would strongly recommend to any of my classmates.

This book could be a lot better. Some of the info contradicts what's on the NCLEX. Also, there will be several pages on patho yet only a small paragraph on nursing interventions...I'm in nursing school so I need those interventions. I found it to be very repetitive and vague with the provided info.

The Medical Surgical Nursing book is an excellent book to learn from. Although it is required more for a future class I am to take there is some required readings out of it for us. I started out renting this book and ended up purchasing it because it was so informative. I find myself referencing this book even when it is not required. I feel like any kind of medical books can get a little dry at times the same holds true for this one.

I really like how the book breaks it down to pathophysiology, assessment, and interventions. This was extremely helpful to me; it made it easy to visualize what I needed to do. Some other helpful things that this book offers are all of the different side boxes on almost every page. Some of the boxes are for example nursing safety boxes that address things like critical rescue and action alerts. Those really make you think critically about what needs to be done.

The charts and table are equally as helpful and I tend to look at those more than anything when learning something new or brushing up on something old. The only thing I would say that was a negative was some of the material you would be reviewing may be on one page but the chart that goes with that information is sometimes three pages later. This can be very annoying when trying to study.

There are nursing concept reviews at the end of each chapter that really does go over just about everything in the chapter. So say if you are already familiar with a subject but just need to review or you are cramming for a test at 3am the night before you can go here and see what you may need to flip in the chapter to review a little more.

Last but not least because this is a nursing med surg. book there are NCLEX review questions all throughout which we all know are very helpful.
