I work at a very well known hospital in the suburbs of Boston in a department where medical terminology is a must! Having had no schooling on this particular subject, I was asked to enroll in a course at the hospital specifically for staff. I paid for this book by Ann Ehrlich on the first day of class and have to admit, gasped when I saw the thickness and content of the book. Not having any background on this subject, I expected to have an extremely hard time picking the terminology 'lingo' up but I was in for a pleasant surprise! This book is not only very easy to follow and understand, it's also perfect for a person who is being introduced to the medical world. After a few months, some of the longest and most complicated sounding words are rolling off my tongue. I even amaze myself when I say them! Considering this book is a mandatory part of the hospitals class which consists of hundreds, I'm not at all surprised why they chose this book as the main tool. Yes, we have a doctor assisting us with the words along with the book but I truly believe I could learn this information alone. The book is that clear and easy. So, if you find the need to learn medical terminology and are not as lucky as me in being offered a free class, I'd recommend you buy this book and learn it yourself. This is a book that my hospital has used from edition one according to the instructor. Quick learning at your pace!

I love the layout of this book. It makes it easy to memorize new terms and to locate information. There are very useful vocabulary lists at the beginning of each chapter. The learning exercises at the end of each chapter easily help you pinpoint areas that need further study. However, the CD has errors. In the first 2 chapters, I have already found 3. For example, I typed in "histologist" as an answer to one of the questions and it said I was incorrect and that the correct answer was histologist! Then it incorrectly matched the pairs "poster/o" and "in front of, before", which is also incorrect. If you study the material throroughly you will be able to recognize these errors. At first I was also disappointed to find there is no answer key to each of the tests at the end of the chapters, but as is turns out, it just causes me to look for the answers to check myself, which just serves to reinforce the learning process, so I see it as a positive now! I'm still glad I got this book and would recommend it for others.

THis was the book for my Terminology For Health Professionals course. I'm a medical transcriptionist in training going toward a career in ultrasound. I'm also a word freak. I found this book acceptable, nothing more. If you're not fussy, there's good basic info there. But there are many misprints and spelling errors, and consistently the authors fail to use proper translations of Latin tenses, so a Latin word ending in "ing" (in Latin) will be rendered, in English, as "a condition," for example. I got a lot of questions wrong because of this inattention to grammar. More important, their CD-ROM has about 20 errors that I found- - - you type in the right answer and it marks you wrong! Buyer beware.

I used this book for the first semester of medical school. It gives a quick overview of each system of the human body as well as abbreviations commonly used. It's an easy read. A perfect complement for anyone needing a quick, but thorough, medical terminology overview.

I purchased this book for a continuing ed class, and I'm impressed! Diseases, origin of words, word structure and usage is thoroughly covered and CLEAR. It also serves as a short course on anatomy as well. The writing is easy to understand, never overly technical. Illustrations are colorful and well-designed. The CD-ROM is nothing less than great. Even after the class, I am keeping this book as a reference, along with my Taber's Medical Dictionary. It will be appreciated in almost any setting, whether it be the medical transcriptionist's, billing, medical assistant's, or radiology department. It's that good.

Excellent Medical Terminology Resource,
This review is from: Medical Terminology for Health Professions (Plastic Comb)
This book was an excellent resource for someone who has little medical background. Difficult concepts were made easy thanks to the included study aids. I especially liked the various memory tips that were given throughout the book. I would highly recommend this book for novices as well as experts.

I love the book ,im going for surgical tech and it helped me difine some of my surgical procedures, wonderfully.I've also been able to share it with the other students in my class and they seemed to love it as well. I guess the only problem for me was getting a response from the sender to see what the hold up was to recieve it,everytime i emailed her i never got a response.but i finally got the book (it's ok condition but for twenty bucks what can you expect, you know :0)).over all im really happy with it it was worth every penny.

I used this book during my Medical Assistant course. I found it very easy to use and understand the chapters are very well organized. The flash cards that were included were helpful also. This was the primary book that our class used to learn anatomy and medical terminology.

This book is awesome. I am using it as a add-on for the medical terminology part for my coding class. The CD that comes with the book is great as well...learning is easier with the CD. You can take quizzes and either print them out or take them over and over again until you understand the material...The author did a great job with this book. I can't say anything bad about this book...its just awesome. I recommend this book to anyone who needs additional help with medical terminology...
