Excellent book. Gives you thorough idea about what medicare is, what to expect, it's limitations and how a common American can be affected by it. Something I never knew until now. Surely an eye opener.

I highly recommend this book as "THE GO TO BIBLE" for anyone on Medicare, approaching Medicare, caring for an elderly loved one, physicians, medical facilities, etc. It not only explains the intricacies of Medicare but does so in plain and simple every day language. Explains the "non covered" medical necessities and out or pocket expenses. Your need is to purchase it now ... before you need to make a decision about your medical care. It will save you time and a great deal of expense knowing what questions to ask and what options you can make in order to save yourself a great deal of expense. Hospital stays, surgeries, ER visits are not
always covered ... this book tells you how and why! You and your physician(s) will be thankful for all of the information it provides! Having retired from the medical billing profession after 24 years, I would have embraced such a publication had one been available to me. This information is current and stated in such a way that it leaves no question unanswered! The best gift that you could ever make to yourself and your loved ones!

Trying to negotiate through the complexities of Medicare as a patient is overwhelming. This book helps to guide this path with understandable advice to help patients make it through the maze and to empower them to know how to best get the care that they deserve. There is advice about how to enroll into Medicare, what screening tests are appropriate at wellness visits, how prescription coverage works and what to expect in the hospital, rehabilitation and hospice. As a physician, I learned a lot and it will help me to be mindful of what patients are going through and ways that I can help them in this journey. This will have a permanent place on my bookshelf and should be in the bookcase for all Medicare recipients and all physicians treating Medicare patients. Thank you Dr. Feke for writing this important accessible book. Michael Rocha, MD, FACC cardiologist.

Medicare Essentials explains Medicare basics, but primarily focuses on costs/coverage specific to Medicare Part A, B and D. There is little to no information about Medicare Part C (Advantage) or Medigap coverage. Dr. Feke briefly describes in one paragraph what Part C is, and there is no mention of Medigap.

I purchased this book because another reviewer called it their Medicare "go-to bible." Most people, at age 65 or before, read the government supplemental guide, "Medicare & You, and then sign up for Medicare Part A & B. That's the easy part. It's supplemental insurance, that goes hand in hand with Medicare, that's confusing to me. I want to get it right before signing up. Where are the chapters explaining how Medigap works with original Medicare? Are there instances when Medicare Advantage is a better choice than Medigap, or vice-versa. I thought information like that might be included in this book, but it is not.

Even though Medicare Essentials did not answer all my questions, it is still informative and helpful. It will come in most handy for me as a future reference, after I am enrolled and need help better understanding the particulars surrounding Medicare parts A, B or D.

I recommend this book not only for those who are nearing retirement but also for those who are caring for loved ones on Medicare. Tanya has taken the confusing insurance language and interpreted it into a language that we all all can access and understand!!! I recommend this book to the young and old!!!!! Thank you Tanya!!!!
