Essential for all breastfeeding moms!, June 16, 2000
This review is from: Medications and Mothers' Milk 1999-2000 (Paperback)
Anyone who is breastfeeding her baby should have this book for a reference! Medical professionals who deal with breastfeeding mothers need the book as well. This book lists drugs of all sorts (prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and even illegal drugs) and explains what effects the drugs have on mothers' milk. It reviews any studies that have been done on each drug and whether or not the drug is approved by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
"Medications and Mothers' Milk" also lists pregnancy risks, adult concerns, and pediatric concerns associated with each drug. Most of the material is written so that the average person can understand it. There is a technical section on each drug (such as half-lives, milk/plasma ratios, etc.) for anyone interested in that aspect of the drugs, but one definitely does not need to be able to understand the technical stuff to get the full benefits from the book.
If you are breastfeeding, this book is an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY! Don't rely on your healthcare providers to know how medications affect your milk!

Needed by pediatricians, obstetricians, family practice physicians. I give this book as a Christmas gift to my fellow physicians. That expresses how highly I regard it.

NO breastfeeding mother should be without it!, May 8, 2000
This review is from: Medications and Mothers' Milk 1999-2000 (Paperback)
This book is a MUST for ALL breastfeeding moms. In my experience not all medical personal are educated enough on breastfeeding and are WAY to quick to tell the breastfeeding mother to wean to take a drug when there is most likely an alternative to that drug in question OR it is ok to take. This book saved me from weaning my 4 month old because the Nurse Practioner wanted me to wean to take amoxciallian which is approved by the AAP for breastfeeding moms. ALL Medical proffesions that deal with breastfeeding mothers in ANY way and breastfeeding mom's need the book! ONE MILLION STARS!
