Essential for Nursing Mothers,
By "andrewsmama" (Austin, Texas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Medications and Mothers' Milk (Paperback)
This invaluable book gathers all current medical information on the effects of medications on breast milk. The risk to an infant from medicine taken by a nursing mother is quite different from the risk to an unborn baby. Often the risk is much less, but many doctors are only aware of the pregnancy risk level, thus unnecessarily depriving nursing mothers of needed medicine, or wrongly encouraging them to stop nursing. Ratings indicate the risk category, as well as listing molecular weight, time to peak levels in milk, etc. This book should be a part of every nursing mother's library. Bring it with you and educate your doctor!

As a Family Nurse Practitioner and a new mother, I had many questions about breastfeeding and medications. This book is an excellent reference for the medical professional and easy to read for the lactating mother.
