Spices for Health,
By
This review is from: Medicinal Seasonings (Paperback)
Medicinal Seasonings explains how spices help increase longevity and dramatically improve quality of life as we age. Belief in the beneficial role of spices in cuisine is stronger in Eastern cultures where many degenerative aging diseases often have a lower incidence. As numerous prominent studies confirm the health benefits of spices, Western cultures are catching up.
Spices generally contain highly concentrated amounts of protective phytochemicals (chemical compounds naturally in occurring in plants that are believed to affect health and are used in many medicines). They also generally contain incredibly high concentrations of antioxidants -much greater than those found in most fruits. This does not mean spices can in any respect replace fruits or other healthy foods, just that they can play a very important role. Regarding some degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's to use just one example, studies strongly support the assertion that spices can actually make all the difference in the world. This book also explains specifically how 22 spices protect against respective diseases and even obesity. One of the important spices is turmeric. The challenge may be to find ways to integrate it into one's diet. For the best deal on Amazon in turmeric, please see: Tiger Tiger Indian Spices, Ground Turmeric, 4.4-Ounce Tins (Pack of 6) Some companies have combined synergistic extracts of the most effective spices into supplements. One such supplement with enormous softgel tablets that I have personally used and believe works is found here: New Chapter Zyflamend, 60 Softgels, 0.5 Bottle

Brilliant and informative book on the healing power of spices by Dr Keith Scott,
By
This review is from: Medicinal Seasonings (Paperback)
I found Dr. Scott's book to be very informative and has really opened my eyes as to the importance of spices to our health. Until now I always thought that eating lots of fruit and vegetables was the key to good health.
Having read Medicinal Seasonings I realize that any diet that does not include significant quantities of spices is not as beneficial as I once thought it was. Dr Scott's hypothesis that humans evolved with spicy foods and its health implications make complete sense to me. It is an original theory that I have never seen expounded anywhere else and it fits in perfectly with the growing scientific evidence that points to the significant role that plant nutrients play in our health. I especially like Dr. Scott's explanation on how the breeding of new plant varieties has reduced both their flavour and nutritional content and why we should eat more spices in order to fill this nutritional shortfall. This book contains a mine of useful information about the health properties of individual spices. It also provides scientific details about individual compounds that are responsible for the health benefits of various spices. I would recommend Medicinal Seasonings to all those who take an active interest in health and nutrition as it covers all the latest scientific research into the health benefits of spices in respect of diseases such as cancer,Alzheimer's and other diseases.Medicinal Seasonings

A cure in nature for everything,

A ground-breaking book.* Today's pharmaceutical companies need to move away from the manufacture (promotion and sale) of potentially harmful drugs* (*containing chemical concoctions) and concentrate on making tablets and capsules that combine spices and herbs, or herbs and biochemical tissue-salts, etc., that will really cure any number of ailments (or chronic conditions) without (harmful) side-effects. NB: and specifically explore the potential use of chillies (for improved circulation) and cloves, etc., for pain. (*Recommended reading for everyone).
PS: note to anyone who consumes a lot of (bought) chilli powder. I experimented with chilli powder (in capsule form) for pain, without being aware that many products of this nature contain a toxic* (*potentially cancer causing) additive, known as 'sudan red.' See:[...] for more information. And be absolutely sure that the chilli powder you buy is free of this extremely dangerous additive. (Or even better grow and eat your own organic chillies!).
