Bright Greetings, In my humble opinion, there is no one book to encompass herbalism in its entirety...but if you are willing to combine two books may I suggest using this book in conjunction with Paul Beyerl's "A Compendium of Herbal Magick". Paul's book is full of information regarding Magick, history and lore...but contains no pictures. If you couple his book with the herbal guide Reader's Digest sells, you won't be disappointed. When I went to school for Herbal Medicine we used this book only as a picture reference. The info is incomplete as well as false in some instances and gives herbs a bad wrap. Probably written by someone affiliated with the FDA. Might as well buy the PDR for Herbal Medicines which is also a decent picture reference.

Well, the pictures certainly make it a little easier to identify stuff in the wild, and the dye references, and growing guides are helpful. I am not a very adept gardener so I need all the help I can get. What dissapointed me most was the fact that each herb is limited to a one page section (except for the exotic and poisonous herbs). I was hoping to actually have information on the medicinal uses and at least guidlines on how to prepare them for use. It amazed me that it gives instructions on the harvesting of opium, but has next to no information on the medicinal preparation of plants.

Magic and Medicine of Plants by the editoral staff of the Reader's Digest is a very good book for graphics of the plants. With this volume you should be able to identify the plant you need quite easily.

Healing powers of plants is indisputable as today we understand the underlying physical and chemical principle that account for the medicinal properties of plants. Not only are some of these plants beautiful in flower, but they can help today's scientists learn about their medicinal properties. This book portrays the plant in its natural habitat, has a description of the growth habits, geographical range and the specific environment in which it grows, making it easy to identify the plant in the wild... or in your own garden.

Using this book will impart a world of pleasure and knowledge as one explores this repository of fascinating herbal medicine.

This books is a must have for parents, pet owners, and everyone. The book has clear pictures of each part of each plant it describes, historical use of the plant, current scientific knowledge of uses, ways to gather plants in the wild and how to tell the plant you are looking for from lookalikes that could harm you. I can't imagine what I did before we bought this book! It will save you from using synthetic drugs once in a while (with doctor's OK). Buy it, buy it, buy it!

I have owned this book since 1987. It is still a favorite in my collection. There is always something new and wonderful each time I open it. It is brilliantly descriptive and very useful as a field guide. I continue to give copies as gifts.

Book is full of information for a large boy scout troop. We will make use of this weekly as we meet on land where they are many flowers and weeds. John green

Great gift idea. It is perfect to send to someone to help them improve thier health, or just to use as a good reference for natural home remedies using basic plants & herbs. And it's Reasonably priced.

The book arrived quickly and in very good condition, there was only one little ding on the bottom part of the cover, but for $0.28 I expected much worse. I would use this vendor again for sure.

This book was recommended by the "pharmacist docent" at our recent visit to the Farmers' Museum at Cooperstown. Arranged alphabetically according to common plant names, the book addresses almost anything a person might want to know about the plants including clear photos, descriptions, history and uses. Unfortunately, it is out-of-print.
