Editorial Reviews

Madlib follows his Guilty Simpson collaboration Before The Verdict (MMS 001) with Flight To Brazil, a ticket out of whichever hell-hole you find yourself and into an 80-minute guided tour through five decades of Brazilian funk, bossa-nova, jazz, psychedelic and progressive rock. The Madlib Medicine Show will be a combination of Madlib's new hip-hop productions, remixes, beat tapes, and jazz, as well as mixtapes of funk, soul, Brazilian, psych, jazz and other undefined forms of music from the Beat Konducta's 4-ton stack of vinyl. Next up: Beat Konducta In Africa and India, a continuation of Madlib s country-specific excavations.

Where the hell does Madlib store his records and what ARE those records. His Medicine Show Series alone has at last count twelves volumes of all different gneres, what feel like hundreds of samples on each, and that is just one series in his line of mix CDs

The Flight To Brazil mix simulates what it says: an airline pilot starts the proceedings into all kinds of Brazilian music:rock tropicalia, more modern, fat bass confections, and all the cross breeding you can shake a turntable at.

I'm no expert on this genre, and don't know most of the music here---I spy, no surprise, a Catano Veloso track--but I know good music when i hear it. This sticks to it's south of the border target, but with a wide range of styles and textures. It threads on hot tropical beats to maintain a high level of energy throughout, but never loses its cohesion: the beats and tempos are timed so well, they provide perfect backbone for the amount of diversity Madlib works with here.

How does one guy know SOOOOOOOOOO! much music, he puts a collector like me to shame. Do what you love, and thy vinyl will follow.

Easily a journey into the many aspects of Brazilian music. A nice complimentary cd for a wide range from easylistening & chilling to dancing & shaking. To add to the the fact that it's of a different genre of the equally nice Madlib Medicince collection you've got to appreciate the diversity given from the mainstream radio rap (not hip-hop there's a difference.) But this cd along with the "Madlib Medicine Show # 4 - 420 Chalice All-Stars" are cd's more than worth having in any collection.

Pretty chill Brazilian Beats, I would of never thought Madlib would create a good piece to his collection.

A pretty good buy if you're looking for chill beats and something out of his ordinary works.
