Book Description

July 12, 2000
What is wrong with this picture? We live in a society where birth takes place in the hospital with induction of labor, routine episiotomy, and cesarean section. Infant formula, antibiotics, and vaccines are given routinely to our children. Young women are on synthetic hormones to prevent pregnancy and then placed on fertility drugs to achieve pregnancy. Our children are medicated in order to learn in school. As we approach menopause we are shifted to another synthetic hormone to prevent symptoms of premenopause and menopause. All along our population is diet conscious, yet growing heavier and heavier.

This "modern" medical care has produced a country (America) which ranks 20th, among the top 20 industrial nations with regard to infant and maternal mortality, in spite of spending more money on medical care than any other country in the world.

Most doctors will try to scare you about different diseases. Dr. Eisenstein will try to scare you about the treatments doctors will try to impose upon you. Through the scientific literature, we see that in most cases, time-honored, low-tech methods, in conjunction with nature are still superior to the high-tech, high intervention approach.

Dr. Eisenstein is the CEO of Homefirst® Health Services and the talk show host for the nationally syndicated radio show "Family Health Forum". Under his direction Homefirst® has delivered over 14,000 babies at home and cared for over 60,000 mothers, fathers, children and extended family members. Homefirst®'s greatest pleasure has been to provide the opportunity for its families to grow and enrich their lives with the knowledge that they are taking charge over their health and maximizing their greatest health potential. Relying on his more than 27 years as a clinical physician and now also as an attorney, Dr. Eisenstein brings you the facts and figures why we must strive for evidence based scientific medicine, not the unscientific medicine which is being practiced today.

Safer Medicine will change forever the way you look at medicine and its myriad of procedures.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

We, Americans, worship technology and believe in using the newest, costliest methods available. The internet has made it possible to easily research and evaluate the most current scientific literature. I was privileged to have had Doctors Robert S. Mendelsohn, Herbert Ratner, Gregory White and Beatrice Tucker, as mentors and my goal, in following with their teachings, is to share vital clinical evidence based scientific literature with you and comment on the studies ("M.E. Comments"). Most doctors will try to scare you about different diseases, I will try to scare you about the treatments doctors will try to impose upon you. Through the scientific literature, we see that in most cases, time-honored, low-tech methods, in conjunction with nature are still superior to the high-tech, high intervention approach.

5.0 out of 5 stars The truth behind modern medicine revealed!!!!!, August 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Safer Medicine Towards Clinical Scientific Evidence Based Medicine (Paperback)
Finally someone with the all the knowledge of modern doctors has stepped forward to reveal the many flaws in everyday lifestyle and medicine. Dr. Eisenstein's vast intellect of medicine, as well as a mind that operates with understanding and common sense guides this book to a direction that modern medicine should rest in the hands of the person not the doctor. Dr. Eisenstein stresses the fact that your health should be in your hands, not the life of a doctor who isn't always showing you the whole picture, or all the facts. I highly recommend this book to people of all ages who are discontent with there doctors care or find problems with how modern medicine is run.

5.0 out of 5 stars Continuing the torch, July 22, 2000

This review is from: Safer Medicine Towards Clinical Scientific Evidence Based Medicine (Paperback)
As a God-son to Robert Mendelsohn M.D. it give me great pleasure to see that Dr. M's work is continuing after his departure. Dr. Eisenstein points out in his new book many flaws with the thinking in modern medicine. Instead of offering an alternative to standard care Dr. Eisensteins book explains the problems with how doctors are treating patients and what should been done to remedy it. Of course as always Dr. Eisenstein uses contemporary, and well accepted scientific studies to back up every point. This book is must reading for everyone as the medical topics it touchs, concerns all of us.
