5.0 out of 5 stars Five stars are not enough!
"Medicine Woman" -- Exotic, beautiful, joyous, uplifting, haunting music accompanied by Peruvian instruments. I bought this cd in a Goddess-spirituality shop a few years ago without having previously heard it. I was attracted by the stunning cover illustration of the Jaguar Shamaness. Well, the music is even more gorgeous than the illustration! Every track...

2.0 out of 5 stars The John Tesh of New Age
Found this in a cut out bin for a quarter... oh wow. For anyone that's forgotten what the bulk of the New Age genre of the late 80's through the 90's sounded like -- give this one a spin. Enough pop-syrupy quasi-traditionalist pablum to last you another 20 years.

I plan on gifting this cd like fruitcake this year. :)

2 stars Goodall being able to...

Well, the music is even more gorgeous than the illustration! Every track is wonderful. You can listen to it over and over. Here's ethnic music with an international appeal... my friends overseas have practically worn out the cassette I sent them. Strongly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise., December 10, 2002

I never heard of Medwyn Goodall ?! ... I love different kind of music : from Kraftwerk to Kitaro . And this what this music reminded me - Kitaro , Deep Forest , Anigma . But it is not the same , just a little different . I defenatly fell in love with the pan fluite , which is used in most of the tracks on this album .
This music written with the use of traditional South American instruments and it relexes you in a strange way - your body getting soft and kind of weak , but your mind getting strong and kind of ready to take of and fly . I love this felling !

This is probably my favorite CD. It would definitely be my one desert island CD. I listen to it in the morning, hop in my truck and listen to it while driving. Then, when I get home, it's still playing because I didn't shut it off. It's amazing how this CD never cloys my brain by over-playing. It is bright yet haunting, dramatic yet soothing, melodic yet never too sweet. Medicine Woman II is livelier and more upbeat, and I love it. However, I play this CD more than I play all my others combined. I want to buy this CD for friends and relatives. Everyone should hear it. It's impossible that anyone would ever dislike it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most peaceful, spiritual cd I have ever experienced, April 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Medicine Woman (Audio CD)
In October of 1995 I underwent major surgery that nearly cost me my life. I was 35 years of age with two young sons(4 and 7) After my 12 hour surgery was over I spent the next 2 days struggling to live. When this traumatic time was over I remained in hospital but continued struggling. Before by op I had read the Celestine Prophecy and feeling spiritual I bought the CD "Medicine Woman". For the next three months whilst I continued struggling with my life I constantly played "Medicine Woman" - This cd helped me find my "safe place" within me. I am healthy and fighting fit again. I know for the rest of my life "Medicine Woman" will always be a big part of my Life. For anyone who faces the reality of daily struggles (and there are very few of us that don;t) this cd will calm you, bring you back to yourself and help you find peace within.

"Thank you Medwyn. I could never write in this space the feeling you have allowed me to share"

Karen Elliott

5.0 out of 5 stars Calming, gentle, beautiful, healing., July 10, 1998
By A Customer

(56 min) An exceedingly beautiful, very gentle, calming, wonderful instrumental work. No lyrics. My favorite CD! I love the CD so much that I want to give copies to my friends so they can share in the experience.

From the cover: rhythmic, celebratory, nurturing. Medwyn uses traditional South American instruments and rhythms to celebrate the power of the Feminine, the Beautiful, the Medicine Woman. This music represents a bridge between the old ways and the new -- a gateway to recognise and affirm the sacred, the compassionate, the healing, the joyous side of our nature. Through this balance we can achieve a greater harmony with the expansive, nurturing aspects of ourselves. A lively authentic performance to rejuvenate our spirits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Special, October 23, 2003

I consider "Medicine Woman" a very special work.

Goodall is considerd to be an outstanding flute player, which he is, but I find his guitar technique outstanding. I feel the guitar work that he does on "Talisman" is as good as anything that I have ever heard, it sounds so simple but is very complex.
The only regret that I have is that he does not include more guitar work in his offerings.

There is a very even quality about his music which is probably due to the fact that he plays all of the instruments in his recordings (he plays nine instruments).

We have several of his CDs and I personnally consider "Medicine Woman" the best of a very good lot.

I find "Medicine Woman" one of those rare CDs were there is not one piece that I would consider "filler", to the contrary the entire CD is exceptional. I do not have one or two favorites on this CD, the whole CD is a favorite of mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars always new..., April 28, 2001

This is fantastic! I've had it six years and it helps me so much. There's something special about using natural instruments and sounds. Very nice. I still play it all of the time. I can't seem to find anything to measure up to it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Deserves more stars, May 20, 2002
This review is from: Medicine Woman (Audio CD)
A friend of mine Mao in Lusaka, Zamiba,in 1996 lent me a worn out audio tape to listen to which did not have a title or name of artist on it. I played this instrumental music for almost three years without knowing who the artist was. All songs on the album sounded very similar but had a certain healing touch. Eventually I went back to Mao when I lost the audio cassette to ask him who the artist was. He said he did not have a clue as the person who bought it bought it in music store at Heathrow Airport in London. One day while visiting a used cd store in Minneapolis I came across an album intitled 'Pagan Dawn' after listening to it in the store I realized this was the album I had lost and finding it on cd made me ecstatic that I kissed it to everyone's amazement in the store. Again while walking around a music store I stumbled across an audio tape intitled "Medicine Woman". Just what a great find! I will certainly be buying the cd soon. For any new comer to Medwyn Goodall or New Age in general this is the first buy I would recommend. I play this cd when I go to bed and just leave it playing the rest of the night. I know this was released many years ago but believe me if you do not have it buy it immediately. Job well done Mr. Goodall.

5.0 out of 5 stars healing music, March 15, 2001

About four years ago,I came across this album in a used cd shop and was also struck by its colorfull cover and the hint of its content. Listening to it has lead me to invite friends to hear it and lead them to appreciate it as myself. Now, I have six of his titles, each has its own appeal. This album is one of his best efforts. What it leaves you with is a sense of inner peace and a healing just took place without you asking for it! At this time of society`s crazed disfunction, you need a source for healing in whatever form it comes in. Medwyn came through for us all and I thank him for it. Sometimes I think it was Spirit that led me to that cd shop because I needed this. I would also recommend "Moon Goddess" also look at the `New World Company` as there are many artists that are worth a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still stunningly good after years of listening, May 24, 2000
By A Customer

Ok, I don't know that Amazon will approve of my writing a second review for the same item. And of course I wouldn't normally. But for this album, I make an exception.

It's been almost two years since I first reviewed Medicine Woman. I like it more than ever. I stick it on the CD player on repeat, and listen to it on headphones for literally hours. Over and over and over. Tears come to my eyes when I try to express how much of an impact this album has on me. I have played this album more than any other music I have. Much more. Over and over. When I'm sad, I play it. When I'm happy, I play it. When I'm concentrating on work, I play it. Never have I heard any other music that had this good a repeat value. Words fail me.
