First everyone always wonders if this thing is accurate, that was a concern of my also before my purchase. Well the answer is yes it is accurate. I have had it on my 7 iron and driver while at the same time monitored by a launch monitor hitting balls on the range. Tried that set up at two locations, the instructors or fitters were curious if it was accurate just like me, so they hooked me up on the launch monitor. With the 7 wood in both cases my speed with the Power Meter was on the low side about 2 mph, with the Driver it was higher by 1 mph. For less than $50 I don't know of a anything that comes close in this price range for the home user. When I use it with my irons I'm trying to find that constant swing tempo and swing speed that works best with all my irons. When I use it with my Driver I'm working on getting my swing speed faster. One thing that sinks in very quickly is just swinging faster or harder doesn't always equate to more swing speed. So in that regard you know your mechanics and timing is off so you work on that along with the faster swing and measure the results. I have been able to increase my swing speed by 15 mph using this product to help me get my timing and tempo in line with with a faster swing. At 61, and recent shoulder surgery, my mph isn't going to impress you but 15 mph more equates as a big plus to me. I have a net in the backyard but you can't tell distance or direction as you can on the range. But with the Medicus Power Meter I can get a indication on distance, better or worse, on each swing with the net.

Received Power Meter for Christmas. Used it a couple of times. Put away until spring (NE) when I tried it again and found it was dead. Put new batteries in and still dead. Contacted Medicus - no response.

When wife purchased the item we automatically got billed for two different "video clubs" which she never ordered. Contacted Medicus by phone and they said purchase of Power Meter automatically signed buyer up for these "clubs". Upon request, they canceled but the other company which Medicus staff characterized as a "related business" refused to cancel until we fought them by way of Visa. Finally canceled. Have purchased other items from Medicus (5 iron) but never again. No support and sleazy business practices.

There are a couple of problems with the way this device works. First, as others have said, the display is incredibly dim. The background color they used for the LCD is almost as dark as the crystal itself.

Now, here's how the device works: You enter the club length and your height into the unit using the two buttons on the side. The instructions have the typical length for each club, but if you want to be accurate, measure the club yourself. Then you place the meter just below the edge of the bottom of the grip.

So what happens is that the meter measures acceleration. If you hit a ball, it can determine when the ball is hit because of the sudden deceleration of the meter, and it uses the value just before impact. If you don't hit a ball, it takes the maximum acceleration of the swing. That's why you could have two different values. If you're releasing the club early like most amateurs, then the max speed that the device would measure would be higher than the speed at impact.

Now that it knows the acceleration, it can use the club length and your height to measure club head speed. Why height? Because it needs to know how long your arms are in this calculation. So there's some formula to determine standard arm length based on height. If you have arms which are shorter than average, the meter will read a HIGHER value than what is reality, and if your have longer arms, the meter will read a lower value than reality.

So this is one variable that can affect actual readings.

The second is the placement on the club. The closer to the head, the more acceleration the meter will read, and thus show an inaccurately high reading.

When I ordered the device I was just looking for something to check my swing speed. I've only been golfing for seven years (started at age 45) and have only had my swing speed checked once during the first year that I begain. It was checked in a sporting goods store and I was just swinging away at it - they measured five swings and my average speed was 101 MPH. So all along I've made purchases on clubs based on that original information. In the mean time I have actually slowed my swing down for accuracy and for probably the last couple of years really didn't have any idea of were my actual swing speed was.
Well, I got the Medicus Power Meter, started using it while playing and found that my actual speed was quite slower than I thought it was - 85 to 88. I began reading about how to improve my swing speed with accuracy and am now hitting in the mid to upper 90's and have gained 20+ yards on my drives.
The Medicus Power Meter has REALLY Helped me improve my swing speeed with accuracy.

I just purchased this product in early June, it shipped fast and arrived at my house within a few days. I haven't had the opportunity to use it since last weekend.

I took it out to the course, and the first day I used it, it turned on and lit up, but would not measure swing speed. I was out on the driving range, and it would show me everything, but when I went to swing with/without a golf ball, it would never measure anything. Zeros on the display the entire time.

What gets worse, I went out to Walmart the next day to get new batteries, because I thought (hoped) that was the problem, but I paid $7 for batteries, put them into the medicus, and now it doesn't even turn on!

The reviews people are saying on here are correct! Be careful, and do NOT buy this product from Amazon, it is not worth the risk of it not working. I am going to try to return the product, but I do not have my receipt. THIS PRODUCT COULD NOT WORK, please take my story into consideration.
