This review is from: Medieval Warlords (Paperback)
This book is very light reading but still gives a good education on seven of the most infamous military leaders in the general period between the 400's and the 1500's. Both photographs and Angus McBride's talented artwork excellently support the text. The warlords are: Flavius Aetius, the 'Last of the Romans' that beat Attila at Chalons; Gaiseric, pirate warlord of the Germanic Vandals in Africa; An Lu-Shan, a leader in China's medieval barbarian conflicts; Owen of Wales, a Celtic mercenary in French service; Bertrand Du Guesclin, a famous French knight of the Hundred Year's War, Jan Zizka, leader of a Christian revolt against Roman Catholic rule in Eastern Europe, and Vlad Tepes, the most dedicated and most vicious of the Crusaders to oppose the Ottoman Turks in the 16th Century.

5.0 out of 5 stars More About Medieval Warlords from The Antiquarian Resource, January 9, 2012
This review is from: Medieval Warlords (Paperback)
From The Antiquarian Resource

The careers of seven medieval warlords are revealed in this interesting book. Some I have never seen depicted in any other text. Easy to read with active use of writing. Warlords included are Flavius Aetius, Gaiseric, An Lu Shan, Owen of Wales, Bertrand Du Guesclin, Jan Zizka, Vlad Dracula. The author lists bibliography references for each one, wi. th index to follow.

In this book I ran across more information about my ancestors from Wales, The Lewis'. I know their name in Wales before, coming to American, originated from "Llywelyn." The author, Newark, writes that Warlord Owen of Wales (1335 -1378) had a brother named "Llywelyn, the last true ruler of Wales"

Written by Tim Newark, this 144-page, 9.5" by 7.5" book is nicely illustrated by Angus McBride. I love it and would recommend it to anyone interested in history, from c. 390 to c. 1476, Europe. A fun book for a young reader also.

Yours, The Antiquarian Resource
