This CD is more exciting than sitting through two weeks of Zen or Kundalini yoga. I come from a family of woodwind players; an erstwhile clarinetist of no repute, I heard the Serenata in vento, composed by Nielsen, on a PBS station a few weeks ago. Bought the CD and found a goldmine of pleasure. The Chicago Pro Musica is truly a gifted chamber group. Their choice of selections remarkable, and the listening enjoyable; Walton, Scriabin, Nielsen, of course, but then Stravinksy, highlighting an exquisite brass section, on to Weill and the dreipfennig, Bowles, first time I had heard him; he paints the clarinet as adventurous and entertaining. Martinu, is perfect for this ensemble, or should I say this ensemble is perfect for Martinu's style. The Octandre by Varese is more dystonic than I would prefer, so what, the technical skills cause it to be most impressive. And the maraschino cherry on top of this musical sundae, the Capriccio Espagnol. What a great clarinet, I mean brass, no flute, no bassoon! Encore, CPM, you are profoundly superb. Thank you.

Both the music and sonics are superb, especially if your disc player can process HDCD. I highly recommend this disc.
