To charge a device like a Blackberry, which requires 5 Volts charging input at about 3 Watts, you must connect the large conversion connector to the base fuel cell. The fuel cell alone can not put out sufficient power. Inside the connector is a battery, which must be charged by the fuel cell first for a few hours, then you plug in your device. So, my fuel call has to charge a battery so that I can charge my battery? As long as you do not expect this device to immediately provide a charge after you first activate the fuel cell, then maybe you will not be disappointed. Even with the connector, I was never able to get a single full charge to my Blackberry out of this device. I might try another unit sometime to see if maybe I just got a bum unit, but even a perfect unit will not do what I want to do, namely charging my device immediately when I need it.

I have been using the Medis Power Pack for over a year now. I have found it to be an amazing portable outlet to charge my cell phone and ipod. I have found it real handy when I realize in the morning I forgot to charge my cell phone overnight. I can just plug in and go. I have also used the power pack to keep my ipod going on a coast to coast flight where the kids are passing it around and it just kept going for the entire 8 hour flight. I only wish it was more available in retail stores. Also I would like to see Medis have some type of state of charge indicator so I know when my 20 to 25 hours (about what I get) are up. I would recommend it to anyone who's cell phone or ipod runs dead before the day ends. Be sure to also order the correct tip you need (ex: Samsung, Nokia, etc.)

I keep the emergency kit with a flashlight for the frequent power outages we get with summer thunderstorms. I actually got an older version late last summer through a friend, and sure enough, it saved me getting out the gasoline lantern for a night. At last I can easily get refills. What is best of all, I gave one to my daughter when she returned to college on the Gulf Coast this spring. I know that next time she faces evacuation, at least she will be in touch.

This item works exactly as advertised and is approved to carry on airplanes. It can be used for smart phones and most of my son's portable electronics. I own the stock and use the product. I just hope that it will be regularly available on places like Amazon.
