5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable for Writing, Relaxing, Reading, March 24, 2011
This review is from: Meditation: Classical Relaxation Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
I listen to the entire "Meditation: Classical Relaxation" series often when I write, and find it engaging without being overwhelming. Today, once again, I listened to Volume 2.

The highlight for me on this CD is the passionate, but subtle "Tchaikovsky: Serenade For Strings In C, Op. 48."

I found the strings in "Massenet: Thaïs" whiny, and usually skip it.

Beethoven's "Minuet In G, WoO 10/2" lilts and moves along without drawing much attention to itself. Pleasant, and perfect for listening while focused on other things.

Novelty music fans will recognize "Ponchielli: La Gioconda" as it is where Allan Sherman found his tune for his 1963 hit, "Hello Muddah Hello Faddah." ("Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh. Here I am at Camp Granada. Camp is very entertaining. And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining.")

* András Kórodi: Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra -- Massenet: Thaïs - Meditation

* Miklos Szenthelyi; Gyorgy Gyorivånyi-Råth: Hungarian State Orchestra -- Svendsen: Romance In G, Op. 26

* Herbert Kegel: Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra -- Grieg: Elegiac Melodies, Op. 34 - The Last Spring

* Budapest Strings -- Beethoven: Minuet In G, WoO 10/2

* Budapest Strings -- Haydn: String Quartet In F, Op. 3/5, H 3/17, "Serenade" - Andante Cantabile

* Budapest Strings -- Zdenék: Moods For Piano Op. 41 - #6, Op. 41/6, "Poéme"

* Herbert Kegel: Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra -- Grieg: Elegiac Melodies, Op. 34 = The Wounded Heart

* Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra -- Tchaikovsky: Serenade For Strings In C, Op. 48 - Elegia

* Dresden Philharmonic -- Grieg: 6 Piano Pieces Arranged From Songs, Op. 41 - #3

* András Kórodi: Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra -- Ponchielli: La Gioconda - Dance Of The Hours

I fully recommend "Meditation: Classical Relaxation, Vol. 2", but spend only a few dollars more and get the complete set.
