4.0 out of 5 stars Think you can't meditate? Think again!
I had tried meditation before and failed, because I was trying to learn the classical "passive" form of meditation, where you are supposed to empty your mind of all other thoughts and focus only on one thing. That simply did not work with my busy mind! In this easy-to-read book, Holly Sumner explains that "active" meditation, where you imagine and...

I bought this book for .25 cents at a yard sale. Boy did I waste my quarter!

I found NO new meditation techniques in this little rag. It is clear to understand why the sales ranking of this book is only 608,394.

This is your basic, "You know the envision white light garbage and hold your breath to the count of ......". You know the same junk...

4.0 out of 5 stars Think you can't meditate? Think again!, August 14, 2003
This review is from: Meditation Sourcebook, The : Meditation for Mortals (Paperback)
I had tried meditation before and failed, because I was trying to learn the classical "passive" form of meditation, where you are supposed to empty your mind of all other thoughts and focus only on one thing. That simply did not work with my busy mind! In this easy-to-read book, Holly Sumner explains that "active" meditation, where you imagine and visualize whole scenes and events, can be just as effective. The only reason I gave the book 4 stars and not 5, was that some of her meditation scripts are kind of short & I had to add to them quite a bit to create a 15-minute taped session. However there are a few longer scripts here and there. Also, she doesn't provide much instruction on how to effectivly read & record (tape) the scripts for beginners. She talks about so many different ways to meditate, I think anyone could find a method that works for them. Overall, an excellent book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Meditation for everyone made easy, July 29, 1999
By A Customer
I'm not a person who is into all this new age stuff. I tend to treat new age theology's with a grain of salt. Not quite believing, but not disbelieving either. But recent events in my life have made me wanting a new way to relax and destress. Of course I thought of meditation. I didn't know a thing about meditation or how to get there to that mystical state you're susposed to achieve when meditating. I buried my skepticism and bought Holly Sumner's book and was pleasantly surprised. It was very easy reading and explained various kinds of meditations. What it wasn't and how you didn't have to struggle to achieve an elusive state of mind. Holly was able to explain how to meditate in clear and simple language. I learned various ways to enter meditation (there truly is no limit) and the different ways meditation can help improve my life. I've learned anyone can meditate without any fancy postures or elaborate rituals. Holly has written a great book that beginners or experts alike. She has something for everyone.
