This is the best meditation cd I've yet found.,

I used to meditate but haven't done it for years, and wanted to teach my wife how to meditate so we can start doing it together.
I surveyed literally about a dozen meditation tapes from the library, and most of them had something or another that I did not like. Some have really cheesy and prominent synthesizer "music" in the background. Those got rejected right away. Some were good guided meditations but they either talked too much during the meditation or their voices were annoying - one had a weird accent, and one spoke in that awful condescending tone that some new agers take on when teaching, you know, all "soft" and "fuzzy" instead of just talking normally but in a relaxing way. So this cd actually shows you 3 major forms of meditation that are often used. The teacher has studied with famous meditators and spiritual guides, so she knows what she's talking about. She does talk quite a bit through the meditations but when you're a beginner you need this, to learn to remember to come back to the meditation and not let your thoughts run wild. That would be my only complaint here, that she talks a little too much for me, but it's okay as I said because this is a learning experience. If it were an actual meditation, all we would need is a bell saying "start meditating now" and another bell to mark the end, with 5-10-20 min. of silence in between. (I actually saw one like this for sale! I don't know why the person would not just buy a timer!) Anyway, this cd teaches you the proper way to chant "Om" or "Aum" and then guides you through a meditation where you chant "Aum". Chanting is good for many people as it's a bit easier than just being "completely quiet". I think it's a good way to start "Sitting" or "Practicing" as the Buddhists call it. The next meditation she teaches you is to just follow your breath in and out. This is a very good meditation, just make sure you breathe deep, down in your abdomen, not in your chest like many people breathe. Your belly should go in and out as you breathe. The last one is a meditation of breathing in pain and suffering and breathing it out in order to heal yourself. All are excellent meditations and this was way better than any of the other 11 or so I tried. See my other reviews for some of the clunkers I found.

One of The Best,

This audio lives up to the promises contained on the advertisement and delivers. I've followed Beryl for years and the products she puts out are often time concise yet practical. The audio is easily acessible by noice and advance alike. Ever so wise Beryl makes it perfectly clear shat there is no right way to meditate. She explains that some of us respond to quiet mediation and some of us especially novice to more guided. I like a mixture of both.
There is a brief explanation on being mindful enough that you understand but not too much that your lost in translation or new agey. Of the three meditations you are encouraged to use the one that fits more in tune with your soul spirit and use the others sparingly or on occasion. The OM chant was incredible for me followed by the mindful breathe. The last did not register with me but hey such is the spice of life, I am sure somewhere the opposite rings true for someone else. You will not get the melodic or mood music normally associated with meditation audios. Rather you get Beryl's voice and some light sound in the background, which never distracts you. When used mindfully your energy and awarness will no doubt be on the up and up. Or if your too much energy as yours truly it will balance you out!
