"The minister will find this a sources of ideas and illustrations for sermon material. The layman will find it helpful for personal devotions and family worship." --H. G. J., San Francisco Chronicle, 1954

About the Author

Hailed by Life magazine as one of the great preachers of the twentieth century; a spiritual advisor to Martin Luther King, Jr., Sherwood Eddy, James Farmer, A. J. Musty, and Pauli Murray; the first black dean at a white university; cofounder of the first interracially pastored, intercultural church in the United States; Howard Thurman (1899-1981) was a man of penetrating foresight and astonishing charisma. His vision of the world was one of a democratic camaraderie born of faith, and in light of today's global community, one of particular importance.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the Poet and The Seeker of the Heart of God September 3, 2001
Format:Paperback
I have read this book probably about 5 times. However, every time I read a poem or meditation, I got some type of new revelation from this man's words. Howard Thurman is by far one of the most wise ,intellectual, spiritual and thought provoking men I have ever studied. This book touches every issue that probably every person will inevitably face. From life, love, race, death, pain and joy, this book is a must read for the poet and the seeker of the very heart of God alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart, Soul and Mind Connection May 27, 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is a profound revealation of the connection between the heart, soul and mind. Howard Thurman is a prolific writer, scholar, and intuitive who seemed to have a direct line to the Universal Spirit. It is not a book that is to be stored on the shelf as one can read it again and again and each time it would have new meaning for the reader. His meditations are truly from the depths of his heart. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have! July 18, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book has been more than what I hoped. A friend read a few excerpts from her copy and I decided to get one for myself. This is better than any daily devotional or short form inspirational book I've ever had next to my bed. There's not a daily life struggle that he doesn't address. It's truly a must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleased as punch October 14, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I ordered this item from Amazon and it arrived in a timely manner. I ordered it used and was very pleased with the condition of the item. I would highly recommend this item to anyone looking to participate in a daily devotion. Thurman writes with such scholarly insight;yet he fully engages his reader and does not complicate his meaning with intellectual jargon. It is great reading!!!

A collection of timeless insights, packed with wisdom. I try to read a passage every night immediately before I go to sleep. For me, these readings help regulate peace of mind, personal reflection, and spiritual enrichment. When I haven't been consistent in reading them, I can feel a difference in my spirit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life-Changing June 3, 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The timelessness and profundity of this book cannot be overrated. Thurman has some timeless reflections in here, especially for his audience of spiritual/religious inclinations. But even for me, a firmly irreligious reader, Thurman has some basic, humbling, commonsense advice about how to accept your unavoidable failings and foibles, how to establish internal fortitude and external communion with like-minded and encouraging people. This book is far more invaluable than I could ever articulate. A great book!!

Sorry I checked this book by mistake. I have not read it yet; however, I am planning to read it after I finish With Head & Heart. Howard Thurman's books should be required reading in high school
