The premise was interesting (think Ghost Whisperer set in early London) with a 17-year-old who can see ghosts. There could have been a number of good stories about how she and her older sister (who cannot see ghosts but arranges the seances) work with the living and the dead.

Alas, the story takes an unlikely romantic turn when this young medium sees a very real-looking ghost. She can even touch him (why he is different is never explained) and almost immediately falls for him. Then she becomes embroiled in trying to find out what happened to him. Naturally, the ghost falls for her too.

It was frustrating that we never find out how or why the ghost was killed, why he can be held and kissed, or who was responsible for his death.

A demon was accidentally released by her sister and gets involved with the ghost's remaining family, but the mystery of who is controlling the demon is not discovered.

This young medium also has a different father from her sister but doesn't know who he is or why her mother was with him and that is not answered either.

The book was like the first several chapters of a story without the end. Nothing was completed, no loose ends tied up, no satisfying ending. I don't mind a good story that I can tell leads to a sequel, but this is not even a complete story.

I enjoyed this story but prefer to have a conclusion . I don't plan on reading the rest of the series.

I read this book in one sitting. It is so well written. I enjoyed the characters very much.
I will read the next installment soon.
The cover doesn't do this novel justice. This is a sweet period piece, a delightful read.
Thank you, C.J.Archer. Please keep writing.

Although I enjoyed the writing and the story, I felt deceived with the purchase of this "free" book. Simply put, this is just the first third of a complete story. In order to see a resolution to any of the issues/questions raised in this book, you must purchase 2 more books. Although I certainly enjoy a good series, I do expect each book in that series to be a complete story by itself. This series fails that requirement. Instead it is merely one rather long book split into three separate purchases.

Very well written book, loved the storyline. Usually I can guess the endings but not this time ... I will be sure to read the other books in this series. I'm sure their will eventually be a happy ending, I'll just have to give it a little time. ;)

A book worth every one of the 5 stars! I do not normally read period novels but I have now fallen in love. The author amerces you directly in the story with no pomp and circumstance allowing the story, characters, and descriptions to speak for themselves and carry you away with them. Not only does it have the normal love with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, but mystery and faced paced action.

The characters are believable and appropriate for the period and the author has captured the culture and attitudes of London in the 1880's. The story was fast paced but with enough meat to the writing that it flows smoothly. It also answers one of my long time questions about ghosts. How can ghosts move objects but not people?

This has made my list of books read in one night (just because I couldn't bear to put it down).

The ending SUCKED!!!
What a stupid way to end a story! I realize that this a ploy to keep the readers wanting more but this is not the way to do it.
I have read many, many books and I can say that this is one of the stupidest and moneymaking way to get readers to buy the next book.
let me stress....I will NOT!
I will remember the authors name so that I will NOT get any more books!
This is not cool......getting angry at the end of a book.
I do NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK! :(

It seems that the majority of the book is devoted to describing the main character's romantic feelings for a ghost. Totally absurd and an obvious parallel to the Twilight series. The story line drags on forever. I am glad it was free on the Kindle and I surely won't be reading the sequels.
