I want to say first off that I'm not one of those guys that just slaps everything I like with a FIVE STAR rating. I give this a FIVE because it really deserves it.

Here's why I bought the album: I was in a Beast Buy, checking out comedy CDs, saw this guy who I never heard of but the album was $9.99. OK, cheap. I look at the track titles and I see a track with the name "FUGAZI."

My first thought is "Fugazi as in the band, Fugazi?" I LOVE FUGAZI, a truly great band ... but they might be the most un-funny band on the face of the earth. I'm thinking if someone managed to come up with comedy material about Fugazi, this I gotta see.

As it turns out, the Fugazi bit had me howling, great joke, but you'll have to find out for yourself. And the rest of the CD is superb too. The man has a delivery style just a notch above hypnosis but the desert dry sarcasm slices through beautifully. I'm a fan of SOLID WRITING in stand-up and Barry's material is well thought out. He is also skilled with interacting with the audience. These are small club recordings which is definitely the best environment for most comedy CD recordings, especially for performers like Barry.

I can't recommend BOTH of Barry's albums strongly enough, please do check him out.

This is one of the smartest, funniest comedy album I've heard in a long time -- if you're a fan of challenging yet unpretentious comedy -- a la "Mr. Show" -- you owe it to yourself to track this CD down. Todd is a serious talent for a funny guy.

Todd Barry is a very funny man. He has a unique calm style and his stuff is very amusing.

Todd Barry is the master of the 'medium energy' delivery of fine jokes. The only problem is that retelling his jokes is practically impossible, and almost always unfunny. This just shows how skilled he is in the delivery. I listen to this album on a regular basis, and still laugh. I can't wait until his next album comes out on December 7th. Check him out live if you get the chance. If you have a sense of humor, you'll have a good time!

This man is brilliant because of what he achieves on-stage. He writes very observant material and is very funny and ridiculous, but his delivery catches you off guard. Barry is extremely mellow while talking about masturbation, hand jobs, getting down on the dancefloor (in the dirtiest way possible) and his feelings about tattoos while using the odd profanity. A worthwhile description of what he's like would be a person who was tranquilized tonally, but says outrageous things once he opens his mouth. While he's not monotone, his soothing tones are the trick to making it to your funny bone. His gift is in making you picture what he's talking about and he's almost therapeutic while doing it. Highly recommended to those who don't want to be overwhelmed by their comedy and those who enjoy all types of comedy, including comedians who are sometimes amusing and other times hilarious like Mr. Barry.

Listen to great stand-up comedy CD's such as this effort by Mr. Barry. I've been an avid fan of stand-up comedy since I was a lad of 13 and started watching Comedy Central. The year was 1993 and the programming on CC was very different from what it is today. I was weaned on shows such as Dr. Katz, the A-list, Absolutely Fabulous the T & A Matinee and many others I can not recall (this was also the time I started to utilize illicit substances). The first time I saw Mr. Barry on Dr. Katz was a beautiful moment for me. Though Mr. Barry was squiggly and two dimensional, I felt an instant rapport. From that moment on I knew that Mr. Barry was going to be a marginally successful stand-up comic. If you are interested in hearing some original comedy delivered with sardonic aplomb, then look no further.

Todd Barry's meek delivery and ordinary-schlub persona is hysterical in person and on his website, but this CD of a live show is disappointing. Perhaps the low-key audio needs the low-key visual element, but this one just misses the mark somehow. It's funny and I'm glad to own it, but I suspect this CD won't make it onto the CD player too often.
