Simply Amazing: The best ep of 2008,
By nowaveshow "Jack Larson" (Noblesville, Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Medium High (Audio CD)
The 1900's defty mix chamber pop, silky smooth vocals, folk rock, and elephant 6ish music to create by far the best ep of 2008. The band writes songs rooted in decades past but with their immense skill and talent they are able to produce songs that sound fresh, vital, and timeless. The vocals are masterfully done to say the least. Edward Anderson's vocals have a slight Kevin Barnes (Of Montreal) vibe to them especially on "age of metals". The female singers in the band add layers of beauty to Medium High with their graceful harmonies that appear throughout the disc. "When I say cohen", is a nice remake of the track "When I say go" that appeared on the Cold and Kind lp. The opening song (collections) throws strings, acoustic guitars and lovely vocals at the listener. "Making love in the summertime", is a classic filled with a catchy beat, and piano. The last cut on the ep (gay peace) is a wonderful instrumental that incorporates everything that makes the 1900's special musically.Highly recommended. Only 750 copies of this cd were manufactured according to the band's label so don't hesitate to buy Medium High.
