Super impressed with the shipping company first of all! Thank You!

The Guardian Padded drop-arm padded commode was the most comfortable out of all the commodes my mother trialed in her 1 month hospital rehab period. The padded seat provided much needed comfort. The arms assist with positioning when they are raised. The drop arm is an extreemly helpful feature when making wheelchair transfers.
Assembly of the commode is quite easy. There there are depressed dented buttons on the back pad and legs for easy adjustment. To drop the arm, you just press a button at the side of the seat. Pull up on the arm to raise it and the button engages in a locked position. The back piece is also removeable if you choose to place it over an exhisting toilet. It comes with an easily removable (covered) pail.
Just a suggestion...A trick with any commode seat, I found that if I sprinkle a little bit of baby powder or cornstarch on the seat (light dusting) it makes the slide transfers a bit easier. The skin seems to stick less.

My wife recently had surgery that will leave her mostly in bed for three months. We bought this commode to provide a bedside convenience. This device has fulfilled its function superbly. We station the commode by her bedside and drop down the arm nearest the bed so she can get onto the seat with minimum assistance. The padded seat is much more comfortable than the hard surface of the hospital portable commode. This commode is sturdy, easy to empty, and easy to clean. It was easy to assemble. I would definitely buy this product again!

We are very happy with this product. First of all, it was easy to set up. It works well both in the commode and in the shower. The padded seat is very comfortable and the horseshoe shape of the seat is very well designed and useful. The chair light enough to be moved easily between commode and shower. A very good product.

Unfortunately my mother' passed away before I was able to use this, but I was looking for a drop-arm commode so that moving her from the hospital bed to the commode would be easier. This is well-constructed, sturdy and heavy enough to hold larger people. I am keeping this one in our cellar and giving away the lightweight ones from Medicare.

I rated it 4 stars only because of the smell of ammonia or some strong disinfectant. It still has not dissipated, and seems to involve the padded seat. Tried washing and spraying the plastic-covered seat, but the smell is still there.

Product is sturdy. It fits over ADA height toilet. Got this for my son who is disabled. He weighs 270 pounds. His occupational health nurse and I searched for a sturdy product with a flip down arm with a wide opening so he could clean himself and this met all the criteria.

This MEDLINE PADDED DROP-ARM COMMODE (Guardian Signature Model G98204) works really well as an extremely sturdy toilet safety frame. The drop arms lock solidly, and won't disengage without some pressure on the release buttons. Also, the buttons are well-placed to avoid accidental release. The padded seat is comfortable, and is a little wider than a standard toilet seat (a good feature). The included commode pail has a handle and a lid. The handle can be removed.

This is a very tall commode. When the legs are in the next-to-highest position, the padded seat is 23-1/2" from the floor. (The unpadded seat on my older-model Invacare commode is 21" from the floor when the legs are at the highest position.) At the highest position, the included splash guard is barely long enough to reach the toilet bowl. The frame height is easy to adjust with the pop-up buttons in the legs.

You'll need a large Phillips screwdriver to set this up, either as a commode or a safety frame. The padded seat arrives with screwed-on brackets that must be removed and reattached to secure the seat to the commode frame. It took me about 15 minutes, working by myself; if I'd had someone to hold the frame, it would have taken less than 5 minutes. The padded back is easily attached with more pop-up buttons; if you're using this as a safety frame, you don't attach the padded back.

According to the instructions, the commode "can be easily cleaned with regular household cleaning products", but not with abrasive powders or scouring pads. The grips on the arms should be cleaned only with mild soap, detergent, or household cleaner. So far, in my experience, cleaning is very easy.

I was in a hurry to purchase this item for a friend who was paralyzed in an accident. I looked at several home medical supply businesses and on-line retailers. This is the cheapest one I was able to find. Shipment was very fast.
