a good album if you listen carefully!, August 17, 2005
well...
I am a supporter of this band since beginning and I really like them.
This is a real good album, without same old lyrics about Dragons or similar matters... you already can find many in the Power metal scene. i appreciate their will to leave behind such childish things and refresh their sound. i red somewhere about Highlord's new cd: Now that they changed singer they are a real Metal band. I agree.
anyway on my personal taste it is a great cd. worth the price.

You serious? This is a joke, right?, September 11, 2004
I originally got interested into Highlord when I heard their second album When the Aurora Falls... that was released in 2000. It wasn't the best metal release I had ever heard, but it was a good album and I gave credit where I felt where it was due. A band doesn't need a superstar status to release a solid album. At that time I thought the band was a little underrated...
However, after When the Aurora Falls was released, the band's original singer (I can't remember his name right now) left the band, tired of playing metal and went back to theater singing. The band found a new (and not even half as talented) singer to continue on, and released a half-decent album in 2002, Breath of Eternity. To me, it was obvious the original singer was the glue that bonded this band and the source of all their ideas...
And Medusa's Coil absolutely proves this to me without a doubt. The album sounds tired and unispired. While the music has it's moments, the lyrics are bland and the singer pretty much butchers any of the songs that could have been salvaged. This overall is a pretty much simular situation that ruined Falconer after their singer left as well.
If you want any of Highlord's music, do yourself a big favor and buy 2000's When the Aurora Falls..., as it's the band's single most impressive moment of glory. Don't even touch this release unless you want a forty dollar coaster.
