great independent recording!,

I bought this CD after I heard about it winning a Native American Music Award for "Best Independent Recording" and I really enjoyed it. I liked the great songwriting, Arigon's beautiful and distinctive voice and the contemporary rockin' sound. It doesn't sound like anything on the (boring) radio -- it sounds a whole lot better! Yippee -- a great new artist to watch. I can't wait for her next album to come out.

What can I say that hasn't been said?? (Hey Wardancer!) I just gotta play it over and over especially Navajo Radio and Indian Spirit Guide (cracks me up every time)--and yes, hard to work at a sitdown job with Arigon in the room, gotta dance!

Danceable fun with an Indian heart!,

Kudos to Ms. Starr. Her music is thoroughly enjoyable musically as well as lyrically. Most Native artist I've listened to seem to focus on the spiritual aspects of long ago. Ms. Starr acknowledges that spirit but she also acknowledges that Indian people live in the present as well. She manages to put a modern face on the subject with contemporary rhythm and chord structure, pure pop!!!

In a land of Sugar Ray wannabes Meet the Diva is a welcome change. Arigon Starr's commitment to Native American issues, reflected in her lyrics, brings a new perspective to pop music. Plus she keeps a sense of humor through it all. Put it all to a driving pop beat and you have a diverse album that will be enjoyed by all

I liked it all,

There are lots of different sounds on this album and I enjoyed them all -- from the heavy "Troubled Man" to the quiet "Tattered Tipi Of Chief Seattle" and the jangly guitars of "Eugene Tooms Is Dead." Arigon's music exposed me to a slice of life (contemporary Native America) that I didn't even know existed. Lots of fun, good music, great songs -- just right for Summer.

An album that reminds me how much fun music can be...,

When I heard this album, I was first surprised by the diversity of songs, and thrilled to see that there are still musicians out there that are capable of making us look inward and laughing out loud (alternately) and yet keep us tapping our toes the whole time! There were reflections of The Smiths, Pretenders, and even The X-Files! All in all, an amazing blend of pop culture served up with native pride. I loved it!

If you don't get up off your flat butt and dance to this one, then you don't have a pulse. And,on the topic of cadavers;Mulder and Scully give two-thumbs-up to "Eugene Tooms Is Dead".It's a Morrissey-influenced,slime-filled good time.Do ya" dig "John' Wayne's Teeth"?..do ya' loathe "aura-fluffing-crystal-toting-wannabees"?..then you'll love "Spirit Guide"."About Geronimo"..you might as well jump out of a plane without a chute,if ya' think you know "jack" about Geronimo...give it a listen.Alternapop's best kept secret. The "Diva" rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is lacking originality and good performances. Poorly performed, arranged, sequenced and produced.

I bought this after hearing "Spirit Guide" on the radio and I've been playing it non-stop since it arrived. I like that the songs all sound different and that they're about things that matter to me. Arigon's smoky voice holds it all together. I'll be in line to buy the next album. Hope they tour here so I can see Arigon live!
