The continuing evolution of "Joe Mac",
This review is from: Meet Joe Mac (Audio CD)
"Meet Joe Mac" is an excellent showcase for the talents of Joey McIntyre. The CD is an ear-pleasing mix of slower pop ballads and fast-tempo tunes. McIntyre's voice sounds great: his boyish sweetness is at times touched with an increased maturity. He co-wrote all but one of the songs on this CD.The songs are mainly about love and romance. The best of them have lyrics that hold up to repeated listening, and may even strike an emotional chord in you if you listen carefully. The CD gets off to a good start with the cool, energetic "We Don't Want to Come Down." Then he shifts gears into the melancholy, beautiful "Rain." "Walkin' My Baby Back Home" has a sweet, tender sound, and "NYC Girls" has a playful rap interlude. Joey also sounds like he's having fun on the satiric spoken-word portion of "If I Run into You," which is about bumping into an ex-lover. I was very impressed by three other songs in particular. "Easier" is a lovely ballad performed with passion. It is a nice complement to "National Anthem of Love," an ebullient, fun song on which Joey is not afraid to be a little silly. The CD ends on a sweet and upbeat note with "I Don't Know Why I Love You," an excellent, fast-tempo love song with great lyrics. "Meet Joe Mac" is a great CD that is on the whole devoid of "filler"; every song is enjoyable and adds an element to the disc as a whole. Good job, Joe Mac!

I could not disagree more with Courtney Kemp's so-called "review" of this CD. Were you listening to the same one as me?? Were you listening to it at all?? I have always been a fan, but admit I was expecting some slightly overdone pop a la Stay the Same when I bought Meet Joe Mac. I could not have been more pleasantly surprised. It was like he got inside my head, figured out what my most perfect album would sound like, then wrote and recorded it. It is fantastic!!! It's fun, it's different, and like the title, gives us a wide open window into what makes Joe Mac tick. From the hilariously sarcastic "If I Run Into You," the deep "Rain," emotional "Mrs. Callahan," and my personal favorite du jour, the poetic "Love Song," this album is Joe's most honest musical endeavor to date. The vocals are by far the clearest and most powerful he has ever done, and his work with Eman Kiriakou has broadened his talent (not given him an identity crisis, Courtney...puhleeeeze). If you are ever lucky enough to see them perform these songs live together, I guarantee they will blow you away. I bought 3 copies of this album -- one for home, one for the car, and one for the office. I just can't stop listening to it. So ignore the nasty reviews, ditch all preconceived notions of former "boy band" members and relax with Meet Joe Mac. This music was meant to be touching and fun, and Joe comes through.

A Very Pleasant Surprise,
By John (DE) - See all my reviews

Seeing as I've never been a huge fan of Joey McIntyre (I'd heard some of his old singles and found them to be decent songs), I was very surprised to see that he was coming out with a new album. When I saw Mr. McIntyre debuting his new single on TV and I listened to it, I was totally amazed. As a whole, the new album "Meet Joe Mac" is actually very good. It is a grab-bag of styles....you have your ballads, your fun rock songs, your just plain fun songs, and then your risky songs. It is obvious in this album that McIntyre is trying to change his style. And he succeeds (with flying colors at some moments). Let's take it song by song: 1) We Don't Wanna Come Down- An upbeat rock song about the problems in this world and how the youth feel...overall a pretty good song (7 out of 10) 2) Rain- Not as sure what this song is about but the melody and sound are great; a rock ballad of sorts; total change in McIntyre's style (9 and 1/2 out of 10) 3) Walkin My Baby Back Home- Yes, the title makes it sound like it is an awful song, but this is one of the most surprising ballads on the album; rock tinge to it (8 out of 10) 4) NYC Girls- Joey tries to get a techno/hip hop vibe into this song and it doesn't completely work; admirable try, maybe it'll grow on ya (4 and 1/2) 5) Easier- the softest love song on the album; wonderful song about dedication in a relationship (9) 6) Walk Away- More techno sound while he tries to change it up on the album; another nice try (5) 7) National Anthem of Love- Actually, it's a nice upbeat rock song like the song number 1; this one is a lot of fun and nice to listen to, though the addition of former B52 Fred Schneider seems a poor choice (7 and 1/2) 8) If I Run Into You- Another attempt to be original and funny that doesn't work; a nice try and the song is growing on me; he seriously sounds like the lead singer from Blink182 in this song; it's kinda grown on me though (5) 9) Mrs. Callahan- the BEST song on this album; very heartfelt and meaningful to McIntyre, lovely ballad with a great final chorus about the "delicacy of a parent-child relationship"; outstanding, this is a risk that worked (10) 10) Love Song- It grows on you, a ballad with a beat, but not much else (6 and 1/2) 11) One Night- this sounds totally like the Wonders from That Thing You Do; not too bad a song, though it sounds very oldies (6) 12) I Don't Know Why I Love You- A rocker that really is a good song; very great melody and very enjoyable (8 and 1/2)There are some risks on this album that work and some that don't. I bought this album by a singer that I've never been a fan of because I loved the new song Rain. If only for Rain, Easier, Mrs. Callahan, and Walkin My Baby Back Home, this album would be worth it, but it has several more good songs as well as some fillers. It's worth the money if you want a great pop CD. Help reward McIntyre for taking a risk, he's got a great voice and I hope he stays in this business a long time.

Joe McIntyre has outdone himself! Being a Joe fan since the New Kid's days, of course I buy all his albums. But unlike Stay The Same, I listen to this one ALL THE TIME! He has a great sound and his songs have really matured since his first solo album. I have been fortunate to see him perform live several times over the past few months, and he just keeps getting better. You can tell that he really believes in this album! It's a shame that because of who he is, not many people are giving him the chance he deserves. It REALLY IS A GOOD ALBUM!! You won't be dissappointed!

I was very impressed with Meet Joe Mac. Overall the album has a more mature sound than McIntyre's previous album Stay The Same. Despite being co-written for the most part, the album still sounds very personal, and very much like it came directly from McIntyre. The songs are more rock/pop than straight pop, with the guitar playing of Emanuel Kiriakou being a highlight of many songs. The catchy "National Anthem of Love" shows a stroke of genius in the use of B52's front man Fred Schneider doing back up vocals, and would be a great 2nd single. "If I Run Into You" is a comical look at running into an ex, and McIntyre's quirky lyrics and delivery make it one of the most fun songs on the album. His ballads are also strong, with "Easier" and "Walkin' My Baby Back Home" taking high honors for tugging on the heart strings. "Mrs. Callahan", a heartfelt song, is also a highly personal one, not crafted out of the imagination, but of a real life experience of one of McIntyre's close friends. The willingness of the artist to open up his life in music is a refreshing change from all of the redone songs that you find on the radio now. Overall I was much more pleased with this album. Unlike Stay The Same, where there were a few songs I didn't listen to often, I find that I listen to all the songs on the Meet Joe Mac CD equally. "I Don't Know Why I Love You" perfectly blends the sounds of Blues Traveler and Barenaked Ladies into a sound of McIntyre's own. This album really seems to show that he's found his sound and is comfortable where he is. This is one of the best albums I've bought in a long time, and the songs were worth every dollar.

Something Different for Everyone,
By Leia Brownlee (Penfield, NY USA) - See all my reviews

Give McIntyre's second album a chance! You won't be disappointed. Musically, Joe Mac has grown and reached a new plateau. "Rain" and "If I Run Into You" have the stuff that rivals that of Matchbox Twenty and BNL! Each track allows listeners a special look into the mind of this former boy band member who's all grown up..."Meet Joe Mac" is a fun, upbeat project! Fans of "Stay the Same" will be surprised by the new sound, it's less commercial but sure to be a classic. Very playable, makes a great gift. The album ought to be a splash this summer! Get your copy today. I would encourage you all to check Joey McIntyre out on tour this summer too. Listening to his new songs will be even better when live!

Ol' Blue Eyes is Back!,

I couldn't believe my eyes when I discovered Joe was releasing a solo album. He had always been my fave New Kid, with his boyish good-looks and bay-blue eyes and super-sexy voice. But could he cut in on his own? Well, the answer is definitely YES! Whilst I was a little disappointed it didn't sound as much like NKOTB as I would've hoped, (Please Don't Go Girl is still one of the best songs ever written) his ultra-stylish, matured tunes are out of this world! This album is a must-buy for any New Kids fans, but even non-fans will find this a truly amazing album. AWESOME!

Meet Joe Mac is a refreshing change. Joey Mcintyre has an amazning voice and this cd allows him the opportunity to show us how much he has grown since New Kids as an artist and as a person. Joey is a wonderful entertainer and unlike some of the new artists of today he does an excellent job performing live, this guy can really sing. Meet Joe Mac has it all, beautiful slow songs and amazing upbeat songs. Joey really put his heart into this cd you can hear it in every song, he deserves some recognition for his wonderful talent. Go buy it today, you won't be disappointed. Fan for life, bobbiejo

Biggest compliment I can give...,
By Teresa (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Meet Joe Mac (Audio CD)
I liked Stay The Same. So when I first heard Meet Joe Mac I had to listen without prejudice because I knew this cd would be different, not as 'pop'. My opinion was not as raving when I first listened to it. Now, I have fallen in love with some of the songs and I couldn't imagine my cd collection without it. Joe has shown us on Meet Joe Mac, just how much he has grown up personally and musically. My biggest compliment I can give Joe is this, if I had to make a cd list for that 'deserted island', Meet Joe Mac would be one of my top choices. For me, some of the songs are like little stories you just get lost in. And the best part about Meet Joe Mac, in ten years (with or without that deserted island) I know I will still be listening to every song and singing along. So if you are looking for music you can listen to over and over and can't help but sing along to buy Meet Joe Mac.

Joey Mcintyre Proves himself on HIS SOPHOMORE ALBUM!,

Having been a male fan of Joey Mcintyre since NKOTB, I was very excited when he went solo in 1999 with STAY THE SAME. While that album was predictable and formatted, this new cd MEET JOE MAC truly shows that he has spread his own wings. He co-wrote his last album as well but this cd has a solid base of songs, melodies, lyrics, production, etc....the whole package is great! His voice seems stronger and more mature and his delivery is very convincing! I reccommend this cd to anyone who wants to hear a great POP record.....I am sure glad I bought it! MEET JOE MAC is the perfect title for an album that really introduces us and brings us into the world of JOEY MCINTYRE!! Way to go Joe!
